"Only Official Fide 2013 has value."

Really? Why does the current FIDE official chess set being used in the World Championship match not have any value?

I'm curious about that statement too. The set offered at WorldChess.com is limited to 500 sets this cycle. Doesn't the scarcity add to its value?

@Chessopera

I own two Chessbazaar sets and they are really very good.  One bought second hand and the second bought form them directly.  I even reviewed the "Modern Staunton" set on their site.

I still think that the Official Fide chess set changed and royalchessmall version matches it. (Maybe by luck, maybe because in the official was also made in India and they had the exact specs..?)

It's overpriced and sucks imo

I recommend house of staunton for chess pieces that are a bit pricey but dont suck in quality

Chessopera,

Again, where are photographs of the RoyalChessMall sets that you own?

You continue to make all manner of disparaging claims about RoyalChessMall, yet never produce any evidence to support them.

Stauntonmaster, the carving complexity of this pieces are close to zero. all straight lines even in the knight. For me it is a way to sell expensive chessmen with minimum effort. Perfect business for the FIDE.

Genuine Fide championship set is extremely difficult to copy, the reason why chessbazaar and royalchessmall messed up everything. It is like the dubrivnik set where the copies look like a child’s toy and a complete fiasco.

Please, don't insult people intelligence, Dubrovnik knight has nothing to do with fide "straight-lines" knight.

I agree House of Staunton produces quality chess sets but they do not sell Fide Championship set.

Now they do: https://www.houseofstaunton.com/the-world-championship-series-chess-pieces-3-75-king.html

Is this set too good to be true @ $99 !?!?!

If someone takes the plunge and buy it, please provide feedback

I was going to purchase it but missed the 20% off coupon by one hour. Will wait for the next 20% off deal.

HOS Fide knight and the royalchessmall knight have the same design. Different from the official one.

Right, the cost of these $300 is this sleeve. and sorry, but straight lines are very easy to copy. It seems that everyone but you can understand It.

Today I received the package with the World Championship Series Chess Pieces (FIDE 2013 Reproduction) from House of Staunton UK.  And I want to say: I am very impressed by the pieces and HOS-performance!

The pieces were very well packed and (except one micro-scratch on one of the white knights, which i can easily fix) in perfect condition. Although their reproduction (esp. the Knight) is possibly not 100% like the "official" FIDE-Set, in every case its 100% like the pictures on their website! So they keep their promises. A very good price (99$, approx. 1/3 of original price)) for a quality product! I am very happy with the new chess pieces.

House of Staunton UK-Shop offers free shipping (to Germany). Although the pieces were coming physically from the United States, its was a very fast delivery: just one week between order and arrival (and this over Christmas)!

I will surely buy from them again and recommend House of Staunton as a seller.

Hi, would you be so kind as to post pictures of the FIDE 2013 reproduction you just received ? A close up of the knights would be really great !! Thanks in advance

The official championship set was designed for the 2013 World Chess Championship match between Carlsen and Anand, and has been used in each subsequent championship match since then. It may have been used in other matches as well.

Hi all
I understand about reproductions of sets that are out of production. I have several. However sets that are officially for sale do not need reproductions. Save for a bit and buy the genuine product. Do not rip off the designer of the set
Spassky69
The King looks too much like a queen. The knights are too big in relation to the bishops, and all the pieces are too large for 2.25” squares.
Add to that the fact that this set is the one Magnus (my least favorite player because of his poor sportsmanship) used in his joke title defenses, and you’ve all the reasons in the world as to pass on this set.

You are right.  And now I feel a bit guilty.

I was looking at this set, to buy, a number of times over the years.  There was a time where the original set was available for about $180.  I was in the period of buying other sets so decided against it.

Recently I was interested again in light of the fuller bodied Knights.  I did not ever desire the poor imitations on eBay and the like.  The only place I could find it at a decent price was Chess Baron. And that was still $295.  Not knowing if the set sold by Chess Baron was the newer design and still not wanting to spend over $200 I held off.

Then came The House of Staunton with its repro for under $100!  With their 20% sale and my 10% Collector Club discount I would only pay $83 and change, delivered!  I looked at their design compared to the original and it’s good.

I have bought a lot of sets from The House of Staunton and trust them.  I called and spoke with Kevin, my Chess set expert there, and he assured me it was a great quality set that they got an excellent price.  I then talked with a couple of their newer employees that are stronger players and they agreed this was a great deal as they had handled the set themselves.  This was all done in 3 or 4 phone calls with internet research in between.  So I bought the set.

The set is quite nice, as nice as a lot of their sets selling for $150 - $200.  I do feel bad now when jjrehp pointed out the dishonor of it.  However I will not return the set.  I am torn as I still feel the original is not worth more than $180 and this HoS version is an excellent value.

As I write this a friend of mine called and I told him of this dilemma.  He just pointed out that he read they were only making something like 500 sets to sell for each Championship event.  That makes me feel a little better.

I pulled the trigger on the ChessBazaar version a couple of months back, and immediately regretted it - the knights are the key to this set, and CB''s version is terrible. Trying to return it would cost me half of the $100 I paid for it, so I'm stuck.

In the meantime, World Chess has issued the "Club" version, somewhat smaller, and one which would fit my Drueke board perfectly. With $70 shipping to the US, net price is $240. I've never spent that much for a chess set, but I'm sorely tempted.
