Congrats chessreader!! Great set along with an interesting back story. I was always curious whether this type of set has the dgt resonators? Do you know by chance? Also would you mind posting the signatures when you have time? Would be cool to check out.

The set that came with signatures of the players would be the DGT-enabled pieces. There would be another set that were not used at the tournament which would cost less but still be DGT-enabled. [EDIT] The third variant would be the non-DGT-enabled chess pieces. They would be the cheapest.

Set 5 used by the players. Round 1 Niemann v Aronian. Looks like the set retired after round 4.

Bamboo, that is a gorgeous prize of a set.

Also,if there ever was a picture that made me want to just sit down, have a good cup of coffee and play some chess, that's it!

Talk about "A Room With A View".....You've got one right there. I hope you get much pleasure from that gem.

Thanks MCH and Magic. The Sinquefield set is an elegant and beautiful set. The board is a lovely English board from around 1890. The set looks great on it.

Brilliant stuff Bamboo - that combo is pure class. 👍 While I am not one to purchase chess sets on future value …. Who knows …. but I imagine that anything played by Niemann during this period will potentially be of future interest. Well played.👍

After a month of waiting, the pieces were delivered Sunday morning. This is the most I’ve ever paid for chess pieces , but I wanted a nice set of pieces to go along with my Colorado Woodworker board.

I love the knights, these are the Player's Edition Sinquefield Cup pieces.

Very beautiful pieces

@Bamboo58 aka. @Bamboo5of5 happy

Great combination of new and old. Both the light pieces on light squares and dark pieces on dark squares have nice contrast. Although they are +100 years apart, the pieces and board look made for each other.

Bamboo, great pics, I’m loving my set, your board just takes it to whole other level. Bravo!

Thanks everyone for your positive feedback.

Its nice to have a beautiful set which also has historical significance.

Calling that set merely beautiful is an understatement!

Looks like the first 50 sets are sold as they have "coming soon". It's a great-looking set for sure.

One of the nicest for the money with 20% off the top.

The signatures are a repro of the original signatures but still nice to have.

Is there kingside stamping on the knights?  I couldn't discern one in the photos, and it looks like the design of those fancy horses may not facilitate it, but wanted to check with you.

Ace-

There is king side stamping on the knights. I’ve changed out my set so when I dig it out, I’ll post some pics.

Anyone able to get all the pieces to fit in the wood box standing up without stacking?

Avatar of magictwanger

Those are very fine boxes....I have two and line the bottom with the protective sheeting that often comes with a chess set.

I can't find a set to buy...does anyone know where I can buy one?  Or someone who would be willing to sell them?

Thank you,

In Post 22 above I posted photographs of Set 5 used by the actual players in the infamous Sinquefield Cup 2022.

Niemann played his first round against Aronian with the white pieces. It was used for the first 4 rounds and the players who used the set have signed the documentation. It looks like this set was withdrawn from use after round 4 because they only required 4 boards to be set up after that as Carlsen had withdrawn from the tournament. So this set has some uniqueness in addition to being part of one of the most famous events in modern chess history.

I am considering selling the set (not including the board that appears in the photos) including the documentation and the box it came with. At this stage I am only considering selling it to a collector in Australia. I don't want to sell it to an overseas buyer because of the increased risks and hassle of mailing it overseas.

I haven't looked at pricing yet. But I would be interested to know if there is any interest from the Australian based collectors who frequent this C & E forum. Feel free to send me a message.
