700 Diagrams of Chess

I ran into this old Russian chess book online for tactic training. I'm unsure how to use it though as there are no solutions and no objectives are given. I'm not even sure whose move it is.

It's good for me because chess websites are blocked at my school and once it's downloaded I've got a lot of puzzles at my disposal. Anyone have a clue what's going on here?

There are white or black squares on the right hand side of each diagram which tells you which side's turn it is. And the objective for all of them is to find the best possible next move.

The thing that's confusing me is how ambiguous the puzzles are. I plugged the first one into an engine and it seemed like no tactics were displayed, but it was positional. No solutions either. sad.png
