Thanks, rcmacmillan. I played through a few of Morphy's games yesterday for kicks and had a good time. I agree about the instability. I had to mind my extended pinky every time I made a move.
Afterwards I found the Regence a place next to my St. George. They have a charm to them.
Years ago when I bought my Drueke board at a used furniture store, the storeowner threw in a little chess set that was far too small for the board. I had no idea what kind of set it was, it looked so exotic. It wasn't until I later had access to the internet did I learn that it was a Regence. I recently saw Regence pieces being offered online (being practically given away) and I couldn't resist. The new acquisition is placed on a board with 2 inch squares. Kings stand at 4 inches tall.
Queen:
King:
The 4 inch King with my old King, standing at about 2 2/3 inches.
The pieces aren't as detailed as others and looking closely you can see places where the old varnish work wasn't the best but I like it. Thanks!
