The book which I am currently finding most useful is '1001 brilliant ways to checkmate' by Fred Reinfield. You may consider it to be less than "must own" because there are so many chess problems available on the internet (tactics trainer!!!) but it is helping me loads with my chess and I only do a page of problems a day. I think some of the patterns have sliped into my subconcious to and now slip out in my games without any particular effort from me

I'm just about to order a couple books online. Silman's Complete Endgame Course and The Amateurs Mind. I'm a beginner/amateur. I'm reading Seirawan's winning chess series right now, but I'm not sure if I need to own them. Could anyone suggest other books that they think are a must own?
(Reassess Your Chess might be a little too advanced for me right now, and Logical Chess by Chernev I dont think I have to own...)
Thanks for any suggestions:)
