Ajedrez Hirsch

Ever since Ron and Arlindo posted on Brazilian and Argentine sets, I've been intrigued, especially since my chess namesake, Roberto Grau, was for many years the champion of Argentina and an international competitor of note. In looking for sets from these two chess-loving countries, I came across an artisan from Argentina who offers what I find to be some very attractive sets. Unfortunately, Ajedrez Hirsch does not export its work--yet, anyway. Here is a link to the Ajedrez Hirsch website and some photos of their sets...

Wow!  Stunning sets Sealed

Thanks for the pics, Cgrau.  And, by the way, I have a 1961 Deutsche Schachzeitung with a nice article and picture on Grau.  He was a fine player.

Hei Chuck

Beautiful set, but in my humble opinion, the Pawn ruins the aesthetics of the set. It's ugly,  and without any elegance. It's like the Obelix Pawn

5000 argentinian pesos , more less $300

By the away, for more than six years in a former Brazilian chess site, it was announced this set, all manufactured by hand by a local artisan in Brazil
For my stupidity, I not scored the Craftsman name or state, nothing. I kept only this picture. Great work, strange beauty, but originality!

Hi Arlindo.

That Brazilian set is both unique and beautiful. I especially like the ring work around the bottom of the bases.

You make a good point about the pawns. I wonder if it would be remedied by shrinking the diameter of the top of the pawn stem, making the pawns more in proper proportion to the King, Queen, and Bishop.

Thanks,  Mark! I have his biography in Spanish. I haven't tackled it yet.

I agree, but Arlindo's point about the pawns, below, is well-taken.

Very Beautiful sets. There is a style to the Argentina sets that others don't have.

Chuck, that's an irrestable antique book!  I bet there are some pearls of practical play in that!  I am looking for my Schachzeitung...

VERY Nice sets. That cross on the King is one of the things that drew me to the Olimpico sets. And I'm not even religious Laughing

This chessboard was made by this same artisan. It seems that this is a just one man corporation. Impressive.

I'm seriously thinking in bringing one of these beauties to México, soon.

Please post pics when it gets there!

Hi guys, @cgrau @informaticacobach29, I've made a video review about this set. I can tell you it's amazing.
(I haven't yet added subtitles to the vid, as it's in Spanish but I think the main idea is understandable).

I'll try to get those pictures I used in the last section of the video and post them here.
