Amateur wanting Dan Heisman book advice

Hi,

I'm quite new to chess and have been told to start by reading Dan Heisman's books. I see there are many. Please can anyone advise me of the six main ones suitable for an amateur (I do know the rules and can play in a fashion). Plus in what order should I read them?

Thanks in anticipation,

Bucknobs.

search 'heisman' in the following list.....you can read his books in the order in which they appear in the list, if that suits your purpose, otherwise can read them in any order you prefer - i.e., there is no "required" reading order.....although I suggest for someone just starting out in chess to read his book "Back to Basics: Tactics" early on.  Note that the several books I list are his most popular, and to me his best books...

May I suggest not starting with 6 books?
Pick one (the back to tactics is great one to start with) and work through it cover to cover. Then do it again. And again.
That’s Dan’s recommendation.

You can also watch Dan’s videos on YouTube. Totally free and has the essence of his teaching.

Thanks Yairjazz,

I appreciate your thoughts. If you also started with Heisman which of his books do you suggest after reading "Back to Basics : Tactics" a few times?

Bucknobs.

 Hi Tygxc,

I,m sure your probably right but I need to be told "first this, second this and third this". A good friend at work sometime ago told me Heisman books. Russ Bell has sent me some fantastic chess literature to go through but its massive. I know how to play chess but only from school and now approaching retirement want to take up chess and exercise my brain (whats left of it)!

"In order to improve your game you must study the endgame before everything else; for, whereas the endings can be studied and mastered by themselves, the middlegame and the opening must be studied in relation to the endgame." - Capablanca
Thus first endgames.

I sent him a question today, and he responded in less than 30 minutes with a very detailed answer.
