Nice case. I was dead on with my estimation that a 3.5” set would fit standing up, but a 3.75” would have to have some pieces on top of each other.
For a laminate/veneer construction box, it’s quite nice. Good photos!

Thanks.
It does depend on the base size of the chess set. And if the chess set has extra queens.
And I just bought another one and it will arrive Friday. And I still need more....
Looks great, much better value it seems than the JLP box. Too bad it's now out of stock on US Amazon, and I can't find it on amazon.uk or .de.

I agree.
I am still showing Amazon has 5 left in shock in the USA. And I just ordered 2 of the chess boxes in the last 3 days.

Value is subjective, and this box actually highlights that:
If anything, the fact that such a box is half the price of the JLP illustrates the value of the more expensive box, rather than eclipsing it
The JLP box has the cheapest hinges imaginable, plus this one can house 4.7" pieces.
Agreed on the hinges, but this box can only accommodate a 3.5” set standing up. See the review photos above.
Unless you are referring to jumbling them all together, in which case a cloth bag is “better value”
I do not see any pieces jumbled. I see some pawns stacked in between some pieces. On a box that is not designed for travel, but presentation. So I am not sure way that would be the most importing item of consideration in a chess storage box.
If that is the most import consideration for you in a chess storage box. I would not buy the JPL or the Amazon chess piece storage box.
I would save yourself a boat load of money. If you do not want your chess pieces ever touching.
And just buy one of these to store your chess set. Then you can kick your chess set down the stairs.
I order the Amazon Chess Storage Box with Lock & Keys. The order arrived at my door in 2 days in perfect condition.
The chess storage box was well packed, and arrived in perfect condition.
The Amazon large chess storage box looks to be a laminate construction and has a high gloss. The storage box has a lock and comes with 2 metal keys. The lock on the chess storage box turned very smooth, and worked without any issues. And the bottom of the box is fully felted with brown felt.
The inside of the Amazon large chess storage box is fully felted in green felt of good quality. And has a divider for the white and black chess pieces.
The Amazon large storage box is able to hold a chess set with a king height of 4.75 inches tall. With the chess storage box lid still being able to close and lock.
Here is pictures of 3 chess sets ranging in size from a 3.5 inch tall king. To a 4 inch tall king with a 1.78 inch base inside the Amazon chess storage box.
A small 3.5 inch king chess set.
A 3.75 inch king chess set with a large base and 4 queens.
A 4 inch king chess set with a 1.78 inch base and 4 queens.
The Amazon large chess storage box with lock and keys is well made. And I found no defects in this chess storage box for $75.
