It seems to me that the free Scid vs. PC database program would be perfect for this job. There are a few recent threads discussing the program. If you hunt down those threads, it might prevent us from having to reinvent the wheel.
Analyze Games for common openings
EscherehcsE - thanks for the fast reply. Actually, I found that both of these steps can be done very effectively just using Fritz 13.
1) I started keying in the ECO codes, then realized Fritz has a "Set ECO Codes" feature. Runs in a split second! This helps me identify common openings and defenses and also helps me prioritize which games I want to run analysis on and search for games, the ones that pop up most frequently.
2) From searching YouTube, figured out how to get to the "filter games" feature in Fritz.
Both problems solved, no other software needed.
Thanks!
Hello, this is my first post so please be nice.
I have downloaded 25 or so games in which I lost from Chess, com and loaded them into a Fritz 13 database. I have analyzed a few of the games but have a few questions:
1) Can Fritz tell me which openings I played in each game without analyzing them all (a database search)? What I am trying to see here is the most common opening that I am losing against, next common, so forth. If I need another program for this, please advise.
2) Can Fritz search database to find games of a certain opening (based on the top candidate from my list above) so I can see how people are beating this opening?
I'm doing fine with the analysis of Fritz, just don't know how to find more games with certain parameters for practicing and study.
Thanks,
Tracy
