Courageous or just silly! 😆🤦‍♂️…

@ungewichtet - I am not sure how to visualise your request … I could remove the lower harness on the body but not across the snout as there would be an indent that I could not resolve …

I think that is a step too far for this amateur

Nice alteration! That's a brave move. How did you remove it, with scroll saw?

It's just me who likes to see knights as horses. They'd love to be unbridled.

Good to hear from you @stumOnner I used various drill bits and sanding accessories with a Dremel. I would never try such alterations on attractive or expensive set but there was not a lot to lose here. Regarding the ‘horn’ shape - it was sanded back with the Dremel’s 120 grit sanding disc.

Hi folks of the forum 😊,
I received a lovely vintage folding chess board from a friend in France recently. He mentioned the board could do with a clean up and I have carefully done that.
The main issue was to remove a small water stain or cup stain. Using a technique I learned on the internet - I carefully placed a tea towel on the area and dabbed a warm/hot clothes iron on the area and, like magic after 10 minutes, it disappeared!
I am very careful … there is an ever so slight shadow of the mark still there but I didn’t want to cause damage and thought better to leave as is.

The only other thing I did was apply my favourite liquid wax and here is a beautiful board.

I also note some light marks where pieces have stood in the first two rows of each side. My sense is that the board was perhaps a display piece in retail environment or at someone’s home. I could have sanded the board back to remove these stains. I chose not to take that step as I did not want to remove the patina of age. I do not find the marks ugly, rather they indicate the board’s history.

Imo, that board is perfect as is.

One question (other then why aren't you watching The Australian Open......wink) is, how do you come up with all of this stuff?

You have, imo, become quite the collector extraordinaire.
