Antiqued Staunton set from TheChessPiece

Here's a quick review of The Original Staunton set being sold by TheChessPiece. I'm not much of a photographer but The Chess Piece has excellent pictures on their site that accurately display the pieces. http://www.thechesspiece.com/proddetail.asp?prod=The-Original-Staunton-antiqued-in-ebony-and-antiqued-boxwood
All the pieces show excellent craftsmanship and compare favorably against my antiqued New York 1924 set from The House of Staunton. The antique finish on this set is lighter than both my NY 1924 set and the natural aged color on a thirty year old set I have. It isn't too bright or too yellow though, and looks even and natural. The ebony is shiny and evenly black. Looking closely under bright light, I can see some hints of brown in several pieces but to a normal glance they look pure black.
I don't have a scale but the pieces are noticeably heavier than the NY 1924 set which I suppose makes them approximately triple-weighted. So, without further ado, here are some specs and pics.

Wonderful looking craftmanship! Thank you for sharing

Lovely. Thanks.

Thanks for the photos.  All of the pieces are appear to be very nice.  The ebony pieces look great in the photos!  I like the look of the white pieces as the antiqued finish on some sets is just too yellow tending to orange for my taste.

Good luck with the new set.  You should be proud to own such a nice set and board.

Thanks, I do like the set.
Actually, I think I like that green and white board better than the other. It's easier on the eyes and I don't have to worry about scratches and dings. I was saving money for a board from customchess.com when I found one of his boards on ebay. I got it for a very good price but I only use it once in a while. The green and white is the real workhorse that I use all the time. You can buy them at almost any chess store website.

Gomer-Very nice set and your home pictures rock bro ! However, I disagree with the Monks comment above (which just got deleted cause he dis'd the ChessPiece) , cause I've done business with the ChessPiece, and obviously many others, and they had to replace a piece on this metal set (pic below) that I purchased some time ago and they were very quick in resolving the problem free of any charge except my cost of shipping the piece back I was not content with, but their charge for replacement and shipping back was zero and I received a perfect match back via priority mail.

Thanks for the compliments. When I received the set there were cracks in several of the pieces. TheChessPiece shipped new pieces before I even had a chance to send them pictures as proof, taking only my word that there were problems. They didn't even want the damaged pieces back so I gave them to an artist friend. I'm still waiting to see what she does with them.
The lesson I learned is that I shouldn't order sets in the winter. Not when it's 70+ degrees and 70%+ humid in Florida (or Alabama) and -10 degrees and close to 0% humid at night here in upstate NY. That's just a wee bit too much expansion and contraction for the pieces to safely endure.

I see there's some new interest in reproductions and a couple people have posted questions about this set. I've started planning to take some close-up shots of this and one or two other sets so people can make comparisons.

His post was still there when I last posted. I don't know if Monk deleted it or it was deleted by staff. Either way, it's good to get both positive and negative feedback so people can make informed decisions about suppliers and their products. The feedback should be informative, however, and not just a ranting complaint that serves no good purpose.
