Anyone know what set this is?

This seems to be a similar “modern-style” version: https://www.umbra.com/wobble-chess-set/

@MGT88, The difference between the old ship's sets and the Umbra set is that the Umbra set is designed specifically to wobble. The ship's sets are designed for stability under way.

No, I'm not. I don't have one in my collection. They come up infrequently.

Matt, Jon Crumiller has a set in his collection. You can see it here: http://www.chessantique.com/chess/chess_pages/travel/SchmitthennerShipSet.htm

Thanks, I'd not seen that. It's definitely a ship set then - although the one in the Crumiller collection looks to be more Regency style as opposed to Staunton

This set is very unique/beautiful; I would definitely buy a modern version if it were available. Thanks for the link to that Crumpler collection website @rcmacmillan, will be lost in it for days!

Don't forget that as well as buying the set you will also need to buy a special board, and of course a ship.

Came across this thread and figured I'd share this set I've had my eye on for some time.

Here's a link to a set design I posted about some time ago. It's not designed for shipboard use but for people with dexterity problems such as Parkinson's or arthritis. I don't think it ever made it to production. That's a shame because I think it's an elegant design for the purpose they had in mind.

That's awesome. Says the dude making it is from Cincinnati. I know the area well.
