A few more . . .
BCE 3d Printed . . .

The wooden sets look incredible, and there are a few design options. With the 3D printed, I think its only this design, but there are lots of color choices . . .

Been on the NOJ, Dubrovnik chess men, BCE sites non stop for about a month ...
Seriously, you need to get a life.
OK Sound, thanks. Any other words of wisdom?

I have mixed feeling about this BCE Blitz 3D printed. I do own one. It was printed in wood fill PLA. I wanted a wood look and not a plastic look in color. I have always liked the BCE Stage 1 design. However the price tag to me was and is unrealistic. Mainly due to the simple design. So when Izmet offered a 3D printed version. I was willing to get one at the 1/4th of the cost. On one hand I like it and on the other hand I don't hate it but was rather disappointed. During the summer one of my Knights came off its pedestal. To my surprise all that was supporting the Knight was a dab of I assume is super glue and a small skinny dowel no thicker than 2MM at most. The King is the most unstable piece during end game blitz. The King is the only piece that stays on the board. The bulb head and base ratio along with the light weighting causes this piece to be unstable. The King is just a bigger Bishop in this design. The Bishop's ratios are different and the Bishops don't have the stability issues that the Kings do. Either make the King's head smaller or the base wider with more weight. This should solve the stability issues I experience the the Kings. The Knights should have greater support with a larger dowel and the pedestal along with the horse's head. Should be adhered with PLA goo instead of super glue. I think that if Izmet would improve these two things. The set would have not disappointed me in those areas. I am happy that I did get this set. It is a conversation piece at the club and people did enjoy playing with my 3D printed set before COVID made a major impact on the world.

Been on the NOJ, Dubrovnik chess men, BCE sites non stop for about a month now trying to decide which set/sets I'm going to buy. While I was deciding on the big purchase, I couldn't help but pull the trigger on a BCE 3D printed set. Love the shapes and I thought there was something really cool about the whole thing. Figured you'd all like to see a few pics . . .
Congrats on your new set! Do you know what's funny? I have been saying I am happy with the 6 sets I have and don't get me wrong... I am happy. At the same time, I still look around for another set. I think everyone here has done exactly as you and I have done in the last month. We have all looked at various sites to try to figure out what we will buy next. Some like me just window shop for now while others like you will actually buy something. Either way it is nice to have a hobby we love and it is nice to share it with others here on this site.

Great set there, Krames. Even lovelier board. Also I like your "Zero F- (Given)" sign on your table. Ignore that sound67 guy - he's just racist against Slovenians.
lol, didn't realize the 'zero fs' was visible in the pic . . .that was a gift from my son

Here's what mine looks like. I think that wood fill PLA is the way to go for 3D printed chess sets.
Is that the "dark brown / vanilla white" colorway as offered on the BCE site? The color looks slightly different than Krames' set in Post#1and2. Maybe it's the lighting. One step closer to ordering. Might as well order one of their 4-piece wood magnet boards as well if they combine shipping. They have been on my mind for a while..

Your comments are fair, thank you. I have already improved construction of knights months ago, that skinny dowel you mention is gone. Connection between head and base is 10 mm now. As for glueing, I am now using industrial E8000 glue. (PLA Goop is unavailable in Europe, shipping from the States comes to $60+ for a 110 ml bottle.)
Knights are no longer a weak point in the set.

@Pawnerai Mine is wood fill PLA. Light wood color has a Sandalwood khaki color. Dark wood is Rosewood Padauk dark Maroon color. At least this is this color under fluorescent lights.

Ahh, thanks for the clarification. Having zero knowledge in the 3D Printing area before, I see now that "wood fill PLA" is the material your chess pieces are made of. It's different than the usual plastic BCE uses(?). I assumed incorrectly the BCE 3D chessmen were only available in the three colorways shown on the BCE site linked above. This is something they tell you after ordering? I don't see it mentioned. It's good to know.
