How about some suggestions for the best chess books, software, DVD's etc. that have come out in the last year.  They could be for improvement or fun or whatever the heck.  I do have Chessbase 13.

I am currently rated in the 1800's and have been taking lessons from my cat in exchange for whitefish and tuna.

Don't you have to be like an expert or above to "get" or understand Dvoretsky.  He scares me!

I just received "Amos Burn: A Chess Biography" and if you like chess history, this is an outstanding book.  Do some arm exercises to strengthen your muscles as the book is 907 pages and is quite heavy.  4 to 4 1/2 stars out of 5 stars.

I got Jose Raul Capablanca, A Chess Biography by Miguel A. Sanchez ---once again a fine book that I would give 4 to 4.5 stars out of 5. Interestingly enough, In the book, the author postulates that Capablanca lost the 1927 match to Alekhine, not because of laziness or lack of preparation as many writers say, but because of untreated high blood pressure (there was no effective treatment then) that ran in the Capablanca family.

My alltime favorite chess book is Soviet Chess 1917-1991 by Andrew Soltis.
