Rybka 3 Human.
It is not the strongest (but more than strong enough). I find her moves less "magic" or cryptic than the moves of some stronger engines (like Houdini). Instead they make sense (to me) more often.

What about chessbase12, or Rybka 3 Human or Stockfish is helpful to find our mistakes and evaluate it?
A chess engine can only give you an evaluation on how good the moves are.
When the evaluation drops, white made a bad move, when evalutaion goes up, black made a mistake.
Engines can not explain why moves are good or bad.
HIARCS is advertised as Vishy Anand's favorite engine. Straightforward GUI, easy to use databases, critically aclaimed as human like play, relatively cheap ($50 for a download). Works for me.

When there are better engines for free, $50 is pretty expensive ;).
Carl's Jr. bacon cheeseburgers are advertised as Paris HIltons' favorite food...doesn't mean she actually eats them.
Which is the best chess engine to learn, play and to evaluate our moves, improving our game rapidly??
