Great idea, why didn't I think of that? I actually have a couple of finials that are a bit undersized for the holes, so I'll give it a try next time I drag the set out. Thanks for the tip!
Best way to attach a finial.

Just a bump since I do believe this is the best way of attaching a finial. The teflon tape is a once in a lifetime buy. My roll from the late 1970's is still flexible like the day I bought it and super easy to use.

So much better than gluing I had to bump it up again. When you buy a chess set you should tell the retailer to ship the finials seperate and not to glue them on. This way if you ever break one it's easy off easy on.

I had a loose one on my zagreb set. I put clear fingernail polish on the stem, letting it dry thoroughly between costs. Mine was just a little loose. It did the trick.

That would do the trick but using the teflon tape, which is so very thin and stretches, will remain soft forever. Nail polish I think will act more like glue. Just trying to save people from using a micro drill when they have to bore the hole out because their finial broke. It really works like magic.
Just a tip of the day. I came across some teflon tape in my plumbers box as I was installing a new valve in my faucet. Yes I said why didn't I think of it. I have now applied the teflon tape which is super thin and even stretches, to a couple if finials and it works fantastic. It will always remain flexible, never dries out. If you get some stuck in the finial hole you can easily remove it with a pin.
It's cheap, easy to use, and secures the finial so perfectly. 10 years from now if you break your finial it will come right out. Just a tip from an old timer that likes to share an idea when it seems to be a good one.
