Silman uses positional evaluation in his books.  I'm sure there are many others.

Yes, I like the evaluation he gives at every position in amateur's mind !I think it is a really nice book to learn some things about positional evaluation Wink And don't read the word "amateur" on the title and think he speaks about 1300 - 1500 players !! He plays some positions against 2000 players, so I think you have a lot to learn from this book !! Smile

i googled this. http://www.chessforums.org/beginners-corner/2185-evaluating-position-part-i.html

This is how I evaluate:

1. Look at threats from opponents last move.

2. King safety

3. Material

4. Activity of Pieces. (Rooks on open files, Knight on outpost, bishop with good diagonals)

5. Pawn sturcture (weak/strong pawns), weak squares.

6. Control of center.

After my games, I use an engine to check if my evaluation is correct. I also watch chessexplained on youtube (blitz commentary)

Evaluation is important. if you are not good at tactics and simple calculations, it wont help you too much.

Chess Strategy for Club Players, by Herman Grooten. Great book.

There's a good review of it on chess vibes.
