I may be getting a new chess book soon, and I was wondering what would be good to get. If there is a book that you like please let me know!

I am looking for either an opening repertoire, a tactics book, or a middle game book.

Thanks!

Enjoy!

According to your profile here you play mostly fast chess at a relatively low level. I don't imagine many of your opponents stay in the book very long, therefore a repertoire book doesn't make sense. Furthermore most middle game book are about positional chess, where as most of your games are dominated by tactics. That leaves a book on tactics. If you don't have one I recommend a book on mates in one and mates in two

I'm not a blitz player. However, my rapid rating is about as good as yours. I have only played 24 blitz games in real life chess and my rating is 1188 USCF. I have beat an 1800 opponent, a rated opponent you will never face in your life. Think before you speak and atleast people dont write i am bullsh*t all over my profile. Have a nice day!

Oh look, a troll admitting he's on two accounts (Ipawnedmychessboard and nikoBelic143).  Smart!  You'll go far...

What did you say about me, you little amateur?  I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in Magnus Carlsen's club, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Nakamura, and I have over 300 confirmed blitz checkmates.  I am trained in bullet and I'm the top chess player in the entire chess.com website.  You are nothing to me but just another checkmate.  You're freaking dead, kiddo.

Also "The complete book of chess strategy" by Jeremy Silman is my favorite out of his different books.

I wasnt talking to you.

...or, perhaps you just forgot which account you were on when you posted ;).

If you like "The Complete Book of Chess Strategy" by Jeremy Silman, I believe you might also like...

"Weapons of Chess..." by Bruce Pandolfini....

Both books are very instructive for the chess beginner-novice as an introduction to the basic elements and techniques of positional chess, strategy and planning.

I suggest that it would be a good idea for the beginner-novice to absorb the fundamental concepts in the two books above before diving into the more advanced (and also very instructive)...

"How to Reassess Your Chess...." by Jeremy Silman...

Here's what I recommend for chess novices.  I like these books for my own benefit too even though I'm B-class.

  • The Q & A Way in Chess   by Bruce Pandolfini
  • Weapons of Chess  by Bruce Pandolfini
  • Is Your Move Safe?  by Dan Heisman
  • Back to Basics: Tactics  by Dan Heisman
  • The Amateur's Mind: Turning Chess Misconceptions Into Chess Mastery by Jeremy Silman
  • The Chess Kid's Book of the King and Pawn Endgame by David MacEnulty
  • Power Chess for Kids  by Charles Hertan

As someone already pointed out, Reassess Your Chess  by Silman is a bit too advanced for novices.  But after finishing some of the above books, it could be next.  If you're a teenager or adult, don't let the "Chess Kid's" or "for Kid's" phrases in the titles bother you -- these are good for any age!
