I put simple felt pads on my boards don't don't have any other bottom protection. Rechapados Ferrer boards already have them but Drueke and other solid wood board makers often don't so I add it to protect both board and table.
Bottom of board - padding or no padding?

Something like this?

No. I've got 7 Ferrer boards. NONE of them has any padding.
I know from your post that you have a beautiful and large Rechapados Ferrer chess board collection. However I do know you also live in Europe and most likely have a different vendor. I'm fairly certain that HoS sold Rechapados boards come with the felt pads already on.
Also @Mikeyboca that's basically what I bought but I choose smaller felt pads 1/2 or 3/8. I also bought it in green where it looks like the felt of the pieces.

Appreciate it @kineticpawn. Does the adhesive cause any damage to the wood?
I really don't know but the nearest example I have to go off of are the few times I've changed felt pads on wood chess pieces and I didn't see any damage.

I suppose if I had some really expensive board that didn't have any padding I would just stick a 4 of those small round pads you can get to protect my surface. I like to have boards on nice set ups and wouldn't want whatever they were on to get scratched but then again I wouldn't want the board to be compromised or damaged either.
I was curious as to what everyone does with the "bottom" of their boards. Did you put padding of some sort? Or is it bare?
