Brazilian chess set

I have a rather impressive collection of chess sets, boards, clocks and books. And although I was born in Brazil I don't have a vintage chess set of this country. The reason is simple: I began to collect chess sets after I went to Switzerland.
Now I am in vacation in Brazil and I am trying again to find at least one interesting Brazilian chess set. I spend some days in Rio de Janeiro, visiting several antiques. I found two interesting sets, very similar to each other. A variation of Staunton, but quite different from all the sets I bought in Europe.
One set was missing a pawn, the other was complete but was sold with a board that didn't match the size (unfortunately I was not able to buy just the set, so I decided not to take it). Now I am in Curitiba, South Brazil, and will give a try here.

I spend a few days in Curitiba, South Brazilian, trying to find an interesting Brazilian chess set, without success. All sets I found were of low quality. I went to a shop where last year I saw some good sets to sell (new). Unfortunately they sold everything what they had. I saw at least two interesting sets online which I could purchase.

Good hunting luck on your collection. A thought, not all pieces come with boards. I gave my husband a very special set for his Star Trek stuff collection. That set was never sold with a board. Hope you find something you like.

Thanks guys. I will stay still one week in Brazil, so I didn't give up the hope to find a good set. The problem with the set with a too small board was that I did not have the possibility to discuss the price, since the owner was away and the guy selling the set was his neighbour, who was not allowed to reduce the price (and I felt that the price was too high).

It is funny that some Brazilian sets have some particularities that I don't see in European sets. For example, one of the sets had the bishops as tall as the queen, and another set had huge Knights, higher than all other pieces.

That’s interesting.

The set I have from Brazil is the Braganca Set.  nullnull

Looks great! I purchased today a wonderful vintage set online, in "Mercado Livre". The knights are amazing, very well done, perhaps the most beautiful knights in my collection. I will post some pictures here next week.

I bought also a beautiful Brazilian old chess board. I know more about the chess set I bought recently. According to the seller, the owner died recently at the age of 93. It seems that he took this set with him from Europe. I still don't know from which country. What means that I still don't have my Brazilian chess set :(

I received today the chess set I bought in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The set is from outstanding quality. It was bought in Europe by the seller's grandfather. The guy died recently (over 90). He took the set to Brazil when he was young.null

torrubirubi: Those pieces are amazing. Do you happen to know what lumbers are used for the pieces?

The black pieces are very heavy perhaps ebony?

In internet I didn't find yet a similar set, I will today check my books to try to identify them. Does somebody know this specific design? I have the impression I saw already similar knights.
