Thanks. I knew already these sets. However, as a collector I usually try first to purchase vintage sets.

The only thing I know about Brazil in connection with chess sets is that Brazil is one of the countries where a form of the Tagua nut is grown. It provides a material for carving chess pieces that has been called "vegetable ivory".

I have 40 complete club sets and 25 clocks. A demo board since I also teach and run tourneys.

I ALSO HAVE A CHESS BOARD FROM BRAZIL. PURCHASED IN 1933 BY A MERCHANT MARINE. HE GAVE IT TO HIS DAUGHTER AS A PRESENT INCLUDING THE CHESS PIECES. THE DAUGHTER GAVE IT TO ME AS A PRESENT ONE DAY AS I FREQUENTED A USED BOOK STORE WHERE SHE WORKED AND I BOUGHT USED CHESS BOOKS THERE.

SHE APOLOGIZED SHE DIDN'T HAVE THE PIECES TO GIVE TO ME. THIS BOARD IS MADE ON GLASS USING FOUR BUTTERFLY WINGS FOR EACH WHITE SQUARES AND THE BLACKS ARE PAINTED ON THE GLASS. ON THE BACK OF THE BOARD THERE IS A PAPER WITH THE MANUFACTURER NAME DATE AND SOME NUMBER. I THINK IS PORTUGUESE,

THIS BOARDS WERE STOPPED FROM BEING MADE BECAUSE THE BUTTERFLY'S WERE PUT ON THE ENDANGERED SPECIES. I DIDN'T WANT THIS BOARD TO BREAK SO I TOOK IT TO A GLASS SHOP AND HAD IT MOUNTED IN ANOTHER FRAME TO HANG ON THE WALL. I'VE ONLY USED IT ONCE BEING CAREFUL WITH IT. THE WHITE SQUARE ARE FLORESCENT.

I'LL BE 88 NEXT MONTH SOON I HAVE TO DECIDE WHAT TO DO WITH THIS ANTIQUE.

That may make it illegal to sell, similarly to selling ivory pieces. Google says "Selling products made from endangered species is illegal and subject to penalties under laws like the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and international treaties such as the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). There are specific exceptions for certain items that pre-date the relevant laws and meet strict criteria, but in most cases, it is illegal to sell, buy, or transport these items. " You should consult https://www.fws.gov/sites/default/files/documents/news-attached-files/factsheet-can-i-sell-it.pdf and seek expert advice

Mine was made in Brazil before the butterflies were put in the endangered species.

It was grandfather in. besides I am not selling it,

Pianos are sold with ivory keys. I have one in my garage.

In 1994 a biologist petitioned the Service to list seven butterflies, including these three species, under the Endangered Species Act. The Service determined that their listing might be warranted but, despite the swallowtails being highly imperiled, the butterflies sat on the agency’s candidate wait list for almost 30 years until 2004.
