That set has been on closeout for like forever. Decent value as long as you won't mind answering the same question each and every time you play someone new with it "Dude, what happened to the king's cross?". If it's a choice between fecal brown rosewood and ebonized, I'd go ebonized. Maybe I should try some therapy and see if I could become a nicer person...
Buying my first HOS pieces..Need some help choosing.
Depends on the board. Do you have a board already? Are the dark squares on your board black or brown? Rosewood goes well against a board with Black squares, actual Black, and doens't look good against many of the brown squares. Ebony (+ebonized) gets lost against black squares, and looks better against walnut, mahogony, teak, the browns.
It looks like a nice set and its a good price. congrats.
Haha im From Louisiana, Fleur De Lis is sort of an important sympol to us. That is actually the deciding factor. Thanks for your advice though!
@Radio- My board is walnut. Thanks a alot for your advice!
Most of the rosewood I have seen from Tournaments has very heavy to subtle striping in the wood. Just thought I would tell you what I have seen. Other than that the set looks ok to me.
haha, interesting Daniel. I'm from Quebec, where fleur de lis is verrry important, and I didn't notice any problem with the king's fleur de lis either!!
I think the fleur de lis is a nice touch.
Also, I have a set of rosewood pieces on a walnut board and they look fine to me. I don't think I'd want to play them on a mahogany board because the colors would clash, but the walnut is light and mild enough that it doesn't disturb or envelop the pieces.
Correct Vince! Boards & pieces should go together like peas & carrots. I have several boards & some pieces just don't look right on certain boards. When you have the right color board & pieces it just looks great IMO.
the op is buying his set by mail; he will have no chance to see if the rosewood pieces match well with his particular walnut board. He is much safer getting ebonized, which will certainly match with his walnut board.
Thats good advice. I have seen rosewood pieces lighter & darker in the same set. Most dealers will not check the rosewood out to see if all the pieces match. On the other hand some people I know do not care if they are of uniform color or not. It would bother me though.

I found some photos of walnut and ebonized, and I've decided to go with those. I'd have a difficult time playing with black if my Knights weren't jet black.
I'd Like to thank you all for your advice, you all helped me make the right choice...now I wait.
This is the series I've choosen. Problem is I cant decide weather id like ebonized or rosewood for Black. What are you guys opinons on the two?
