Thanks for the info..! The set looks great.
Cavalier Deluxe Back in Stock
I was talking with the owner about a case for one of my students and he mentioned this set and the new silicone set being just in.
At his very low prices, my set of each is supposed to arrive tomorrow.
I had not seen the picture of the Cavalier set. I now am kind of excited to get it. He had described this one and the silicone set to me over the phone. The silicone set looks to be very interesting. He needs to get a picture of that one up. needs to
Frankly the horse hairdo lets down the whole set IMO(a bit like a comb-over actually,I think it is very tacky)
I like this set for another reason.... the color! The light color pieces aren't extremey bright-white (which I find distracting) but instead are easy on the eyes. I'd get this set and I kind of like the way the knight looks, too. The bishop is ok but really it's the non-blinding light color pieces is why I would get this set. Also, $14.50 is a good price. Here's a pic I pulled online and whatever color it's supposed to be (cream? camel?) is why I'd like to have it.
Anyone else have 'issues' with the color of the pieces? Like do you find whitepieces to be too strong or black to be too dark? And sometimes if dark color pieces are too black, then they seriously become a blur. I should post this topic somewhere else but if I order a set of the Cavalier, I'll post my own pics. Here's the one I got online and the light color is really pleasant for me, Check it out-

Eye,
I've had this set for a couple of months now. It's a wonderful set, and an absolute STEAL at less then $15. I would describe the light pieces as putty colored. Personally, I find the knights very attractive. They're more realistically rendered than most, and their flowing manes pale in comparison to some real ones (pictured below). The pieces feel good in the hand and are generously weighted at 48 oz. (4 lbs.). The 1.575" diameter king fits nicely on a smaller 2" chess board, which works out to a 79% scaling factor for the king. [But only 70% on a standard 2.25" board.]

That is a heavy set and very nice quality plastic... everyone should make their peices from plastic like this set.
We have two sets of these for chess club and everyone seems to like them… we call the sets the "pretty knight sets", look at that hairdo!
Indeed they are! Not showing on the ACE website but you can place a phone order as of today. I just did, now for the patient wait of the arrival of the Ultimate chess set which will probably be late this month or first week of February.
It's already here, order the set by phone. It hasn't been upgraded on the ACE website. I placed a telephone call in order on this past Wednesday and my set will arrive on Monday. Try to order by phone on Monday if this is your desire.
My new cavalier chess set from American Chess equipment arrived this afternoon. This set is perfectly designed for blitz and lighting chess matches. Very nicely weighted @ 50.3 ozs. The knight pieces are extremely Stout and very nicely weighted as with all the other pieces from the set. This is sort of a prelude to the arrival of the ultimate chess set which I know will be of outstanding quality as well.

Just an FYI. After being out of stock for months, the plastic Cavalier Deluxe appears to be available for purchase again from American Chess Equipment. I frankly thought this set had gone the way of their Ultimate set. These sets were always high quality, well weighted with real felt, and much less expensive than other plastic sets of like quality.
These are great for blitz.
