Looks also nice on a 5.8 cm (2.25 inches) sq chessboard.

Yep, definitly ... I'll play this set on a silicon chess board because it's unweighted and unfelted.

The set is about $86.00 which is not expensive by American standards. A few people here have spent $500.00 or more on a chess set. We do not have a VAT Tax ripping us off like in Europe.!

The Chavet number 6 on a 5.5 cm (2.16 inches) sq board

That's a NICE set. Frank is right though I am looking for the late '80's early '90's set with the bishops shaped like this ...

The first Chavet set I found is for sale for 35 Euro's (with the board included) before bidding. I guess it's a number 4 or 5 because the used board measures 44 cm.

Apologies if this is the wrong thread, but this is the closest I could find that seemed similar ... anyway, there's a "Chavet" from the 70s sold under the German brand, APFv Rolland, available on etsy now:

It's a study-sized set and it has a couple rook leaners so it sure seems legit. wink.png Any more info about these little guys?

@lotsoblots Looks right to me, it's a nice set. It's an older Chavet knight design. Your best bet to find it is to pour over this thread. https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/chavet-ndeg-8

Beautiful set!!!

Note on the black stained ones: where I live the Chavets (which used to be) distributed by resellers are almost invariably black stained (outside of France) I see those popping up quite regularly while the brown stained ones are far and between.

That is an elegant set. Similar to typical downhead horse knight set.

Forgive me for my ignorance but the tournament chess set sold by DGT look almost same as the Chavet Chess sets.

Were the Chavet sets inspired by that design or was it vice versa.
