ah great! I have to rewrite my codex now merci merci!
Chavet N° 8

Walter, Here is my size 5 with the pointy ball. The box makes me think it is from the 2000s. What do you think?

@Walterbiensur do you know the background of the black varnished sets? Were they only sold for export or did Chavet also sell them under own brand?

@TheOneCalledMichael A wonderfully growing collection, superb photos, and the answer to the question.
A varnished number 6 from 1986-1988, with knights close to the WCC1990 : original box and labels. But it's true that they are rarer in France than all the unvarnished pieces.

Ah great! Thanks for the info and another great 6 buddy! Not to mention that exquisite Looping clock

I also wanted to show these samples coming straight from the Netherlands. The company only sells to professionals, but several stores can resell them to you around the world: https://hollandfelt.nl/en/applications/retail-sale.html
The shade that comes closest to what I find under the Chavet pawns is reference 70… difficult to compare a 50-year-old product with a brand new sample.

Holy crap! There is such a thing? Here me went to https://pipoos.com/ to get some felt for my just delivered soviet set lol

This thread is amazing. I picked up a set this weekend. The box says B210 but the pieces aren't polished/varnished like the examples seem to be in this thread. I love it either way but I wonder What you think? Is it a B210?

@Ceithearnach Nice looking set! Was this a local purchase in Ireland? Or did I miss out on an auction?
There is currently a Chavet Size 8 available on the "popular auction site" right now for $400. It's not my auction. It's a Buy It Now, so it's not like this post will jack up the bids. You snooze, you lose. Someone grab it.

@Pawnerai You guessed it. This was local. €150 for the board and set, which I thought was good. I saw the one on the popular auction site but I'm hesitant because I think the same set has been up a few times from different sellers.. I could be wrong!

This is the current version of size 6, which is 153/6 judging from your storage box. Probably early batch of the current 6.

Ooof... maybe I shouldn't have mentioned anything. It's a relatively new seller account as well. Although, that's not an automatic red flag. As always, buyer's should do their own due diligence.
@Ceithearnach Congrats on the Chavet B210. It certainly looks legit to me. I believe that's the version from the late 80s to early 90s.

Thanks @TheOneCalledMichael ! That's interesting because the guy who sold it to me said he got it second hand from England 20 years ago and he seems like a very sincere seller. The badge on the box does look newer to me alright though and the box doesn't have the finger joints, which I think older boxes did.
@Walter There is also this size 6 queen with pointy ball, I believe also from year 2000?
here are three more, from the 70s, in 4-5 and 6. the same ball as your 6, late 80 early 90.
