That's a beauty mister Walter, I'm guessing size 6? B210? Nice!

Not sure if you saw, the reddit link has 6 slideshow photos. The set is B207A. King is 8.3cm. (No.4) Missing a white pawn . One of the pieces has a sticker with "140-" (usd?) on the bottom. Which I'm guessing is/was the price.

lol I didn't see it was a slideshow, I only saw the first picture. Still a nice set
edit: I looked again at the link and now I get the comment about a missing white pawn. I thought how the hell was he able to see that from the white pieces in the box lol

I have nothing to sell… but have à look here :

I sent an email last week: no response to date. I'll try a phone call tomorrow ...

Oeeh I love bargain hunting! I usually make a copy of mister MCH818 notes once every 3 weeks to keep me updated.
Haha! I've been studying Chavet sets lately, so I've been keeping notes. The funny part is some my notes is from your Chavet sets.

It seems they're only selling size 5? But I surely love the chavet walnut board. Maybe I'll give them a call too tomorrow
Thanks for the link mister!

Oh? That will be 5 bucks por favor! It will be used for the greater cause of supplying more chavet sets for your study

Haha! It is in the mail. Check your mailbox in a few days.

Hi Manulec, I didn't see your message at all otherwise I would have responded earlier. I think that's indeed 1970's knight. It looks almost exactly as what I have. Congratz!
What size is the king btw?

The king is 82 mm.
Actually it's because I already saw your 70's Chavet chess set that I thought my set is from the same period. But I'm still puzzled by the mane, the nostrils and also the eyes which are different.
To be exhaustive, you also have to know that when I bought this chess set the knights had some glass eyes but I removed them because only one knight still have its both eyes!
So I don't know if these type of Chavet knights have truly been produced with glass eyes...

Mine is also 82mm. As far as I know Chavet never made knights with glass eyes, but before I was smitten with Chavet chess, I vaguely remember to have seen a picture of Chavet with glass eyes. I tried to find that picture again but no luck yet. I can't remember what that was all about.
To be honest, there are some subtle differences between our sets, the most obvious is your rook crenellation is bit deeper and your queen finial is more upward. I do notice on one side of the white knight, the mane on the lower part is vague like it's worn out or something like that. As whole set I'd say it's 95% the same so I'd say it's real. The original owner might put the glass eyes on his own because he likes Lardy glasseyed set that much? It's just speculating from my part.

How do you determine whether a set is an original Chavet set from 40 to 50 years ago? Particularly if there is no box. Does it affect the value if there is no original box?

I am not an expert but I look for some clues related to the queen, king, and knight. In the more modern sets, the queen has a nipple on her head. The iteration before the nipple was a sphere. The 2000 WCC used a 3.5" set with a queen that had a sphere. The vintage versions prior from the 80s-90s and prior had a tiny dot on the queen's head.
Older versions have a king with a thin cross while the newer ones have a king with a thicker cross on the crown. Also, some older versions had a king and queen where the crowns were the same height. In most other sets, the queen's crown is taller than the king's crown.
The other big tell is the knight. The knight from the 70s has a smoother muzzle and more mane details. Michael posted a good example above. As time went on from the 80s until the present, the knight changed slightly over the years to have less detail and muzzle was shortened.
As for the other pieces, it is really difficult to tell sometimes because of the other pieces could be from different years and from different or sizes. The other issue is Chavet sets resemble sets from other manufacturers like Lardy.
For all the Chavet experts, please correct me if I am wrong.
Hello, just watch how we make a 7 in France, on a label, or elsewhere ;-) https://www.reddit.com/r/chessporn/comments/k4w6np/1200x1600_beautiful_chavet_knights_any_idea_of/
