Chess by Laszlo Polgar - Mate in 2 solutions query…

Chess beginner here so bare with me. The solutions for the ‘Mate in 2’ puzzles only have, what I assume is, the mate move. Are the previous moves just assumed?

That sounds odd. Can you post an example?

The solution at the back of the book is the first move and then the author assumes you can work out the next move which will be mate.
