Lasker was world champion for the longest time in history

True - but 20 of those years did not involve a world championship ... which a lot of players probably don't know.

From 1897 to 1907 (10 years) - no world championship was played.

Also from 1910 to 1920 (another 10 years) - no world championship was played, either.

So yes, Lasker is certainly one of the GOATs... but the whole "champion for 27 years!" tidbit, which is quoted by so many, is a bit misleading. His reign was so long because world chess championships, back then, were few and far between.

Well how else do you accurately determine who’s good? He played against insane players, I set up a thing where I put up tally for every player he played against that got 2700+ in there career when Capablanca was at 2700 and he got 129 tally’s and all of them he was in first then I did Lasker and counted 2 tallies for him for opponents who where 2800+ and still he got only 100

I did not do Garry but he was against Karpov Kramnik etc and stayed on top STILL so he would probably get 200 tallies

Morphy today would only be 2400 but if we were talking about biggest imapct it would probably be 1. Morphy 2. Botvinnik (the chess school) 3, anand?! (Chess base India exploded after him) the rest idk I could be wrong

Don't forget Nimzowitsch - the "founder" of Hypermodern chess.

Also Steinitz, the founder of Classical chess ...
