Chess Clock Question

I'm getting my first chess clock and I'm down to my last two choices..the DGT 3000 limited edition or the Chronos GX.  I can't decide so I thought I would put it to you, chess.com...which do you prefer?

Thanks in advance.

Get the ZMF-II clock. The new official USCF Tapnset is a good option too.

Chronos GX is one of the best chess clocks ever. No plastic, it will last you for life. Love the design.

The Chronos would be my preference.

Get the chronos. The thing is built like a tank and it’ll last for ever. Your grandchildren will get to use it :)

I have my original Chronos that was purchased in the early nineties.  It still works fine and looks great.

If I had to choose between the Chronos GX and DGT 3000, I would go with the DGT 3000. The main reason I prefer the DGT 3000 over the Chronos GX is because the Chronos GX doesn't automatically give the increment time for move one like it should based on FIDE and US Chess rules (for example, for G/3;inc2, each player gets 3:02, not 3:00, to complete move one) and for multiple time controls or for single time controls with a base time of at least 100 minutes, you can't even manually add seconds when initially setting the clock to get the increment time for move one. The only way to manually add seconds is to start the clock for White's first move, pause it, manually add the increment time in seconds as well as any time White lost when you started his clock for his first move, and adjust the move counter if you are playing with a multiple time control with the move-counter on. The seconds that you add this way will not be saved in the clocks memory when you go back to use the same time control for another game so you will have to do this for every increment game you play which is very cumbersome. The DGT 3000 automatically gives the increment for move one so you don't have to deal with this issue on the DGT 3000.

You can also get the DGT 3000 for about half of what the Chronos GX costs.

If you're a serious player and want many features for various games like rapid, blitz etc where you need incremental time, than DGT3000 does makes a lot of sense.

If your purchase is just a simple game than Chronos isn't a bad choice either. Now you have to decide and make an informed purchase.

I have always wondered why the chess piece companies don't make reproduction chess clocks, surely it can't be that all those expensive reproductions are only used to play blitz.

Chronos is a good bet.

Recommend you take a look at the VTEK 300, which can be found here:

The VTEK 300 is overall a great clock but there are some issues with it that I've outlined in previous threads here.

Being in the US, you can bring either brand for official tournament play when needed.

If the additional requirement is a bulletproof design for rugged use under the sun, Chronos.

If it’s for casual, easy-going games indoors, DGT.
Can’t decide? Get both. We won’t judge.

Speaking of wanting a reproduction of a collectible icon...
