CHESS COMPUTER

Hi i am about to begin driving trucks across the country and I was looking for a chess computer that also teaches. What do you reccommend? also what r ur thoughts on the excalibur series

Dedicated chess computers are basically dead.

Look for a chess app for your mobile device. These are much more powerful than any chess computer ever has been.

I think the Excaliber would make a great travel companion. Over the years i've owned 4 different chess computers, they are well worth the money for the thousands of hours of entertainment you will get from them.

Just buy an inexpensive laptop and the world is your oyster. 

With a laptop you can then download all of the plentiful chess software that exists... hundreds of free engines, (Houdini, Critter, Stockfish, etc.), chess databases, videos, lectures, pgn game files, and much, much more.

I agree with Silent.  What you don't need is a dedicated chess computer.  Today's computer software is capable of doing and offering so much more.  (And today's engines are stronger than any dedicated computer, if strength is an issue for you.

When you stop for the evening, with a free wi-fi hot spot, a laptop also gives you internet access, and you can play online.

I agree with MrEdCollins you can't go wrong with the laptop option. If that's too expensive check out shredder and shredder lite (free) for your phone, it has a coach mode that you can turn on. If you make a big blunder it will ask if you are sure with your last move while showing you what the computer will do if you stay with your last move. That will help you with your board vision and help you to "learn" how to make safer/smarter moves. The full price shredder has a ton of puzzles in it.

If you do get a "chess computer" with pieces think about one with magnetic pieces since your driving truck.
