Chess Empire Chavet B210 Repro different woods incoming!

TCE obviously dropped the ball. I think that Rishi would not knowingly allow a set like this to exist and blemish TCE's reputation for excellence. Good companies occasionally produce defective products. Before labeling the company in a way that might cause undo long-term harm, I would contact Rishi immediately and, based on his response, then decide what action, if any, is further warranted.

So my thoughts are clear, the TCE Chavet set in Post 55 is unacceptable. I also do not think the product is at all representative of TCE's workmanship or general QC.

@TheOneCalledMichael  If possible, you should edit your first post in this thread. Add a warning and refer readers to Post #55. Big and bold on the first line of your first posting until this is resolved. I'm so tired of this.

**UPDATE WARNING** Unacceptable quality control issues at The Chess Empire. See Post #55.

I understand but this could be an incident case because I've never heard TCE is delivering sloppy quality before. If I put this in first post and bold letters it would insinuating TCE is always like this.  I'd give them benefit of the doubt and this is just an isolated case.

I see your point as well. My suggestion was a one sentence warning to prospective TCE Chavet buyers, to offset the 3 pages of 54 positive TCE posts in the thread leading up to Post #55. The review in Post #55 is of the actual delivered product. But I totally get your opinion.

In any case, we'll know soon enough when @Krames gets his TCE Rosewood Chavet. I'd keep a close eye on those Queen crowns, King cross finial tool marks, and missed lacquer. On a side note, i guess they use one coat? Good enough?

Maybe that mold is a one time thing. But seriously, WTF. In this pandemic era, where everyone has a heightened sense of sanitizing, and someone gets a package from a country that was especially hard hit, and it has mold on it? Keep that in a ziploc sealed bag.

Great news. Just what I would have expected from TCE.

Happy  it's all worked out for you &  the quick respond by TCE to make good .

@olegershov That's good news so far. Please update in this topic thread when the pieces arrive. Glad you included the Rosewood Rooks as issues. You're ok with the tool marks on the Rosewood King finial cross? The pictures might've magnified the issue. If you're ok with it, it's all good.

Hold back the hounds... for now.

To be continued.

**Edit**
@olegershov  I want to reiterate how beautiful that Chavet set is in Rosewood. Dark, dark brown with grain. The grain makes it so much more interesting than ebony. While still retaining the darkness for contrast. It's a shame TCE stumbled out of the starting gate over their own two feet, tripped and fell flat on their face. It could have all been avoided. And the tone in your Post #55 could've been so much different. The celebrating will wait for another day. Hopefully soon. I guess the silver lining is you have a bunch of spare pieces now.

IMHO the Rosewood King is OK. But I am not a perfectionist happy.png

My set was delivered earlier this week to my office, I haven’t picked them up yet. Plan on getting them one day this week. I’m very excited to see them and I’ll be sure to post pics and an honest review

Hope they turn out to be perfect Ted.,,,,A nice acquisition for anyone.

Good luck

Hey Oleg, I hope the issues you're having will be resolved 100% to your satisfaction. I had very similar problem with Dub v3 from CB not long time ago and also from DGT ! Quality control nowadays not a priority for the companies. They are after fast selling and the most profit possible with mediocre customer support. I am also considering to buy the same set. How do you like it in person? Were you satisfied or unimpressed ? Does you expectations met when you saw it or played for the first time? I am most concerned for simplicity and playability of any set. Sorry if I have asked too many questions.

Pawnerai

@olegershov Have your quality issues been resolved by The Chess Empire to your satisfaction?

@Krames How was your TCE Chavet set? I'm guessing you've had a chance to check them out by now?

The spare pieces were sended by TCE without delay and the shipment is received by my friends in Germany. But I hope to open it in the end of October. And I will make photos and mini review. Right now TCE can’t send orders to Russia sad.png

Hello everybody, I am thinking about buying the chess empire chavet set. Can You tell me the actual weight of the pieces? On the website it says 25% heavier then the original, so either the original was too light, or the chess empire version too heavy happy.png. Do you find the white and black pieces evenly weighted? Your help is much appreciated.

RichardHG

@dobtom The weight will likely vary, depending on the wood. In any event, Rishi at TCE has always been very responsive to my emails. You might try emailing TCE with your questions.

dobtom

I have tried without any success. I know that the type of wood might change the weight but I hate when for example the black pieces (queen/king) are 20 grams heavier than the white ones. That is why I asked from the actual owners of this set.

Pawnerai

@dobtom You might want to politely private message the members for help. Not all members check these forums daily and read every posting. Keep trying to contact TCE either through website email, website "chat", and even going through Etsy might be an option. Good luck!

dobtom

Ok, thank You Pawnerai!

Did you hear back from TCE? I wrote them and they said they had responded.

dobtom

On the website chat they responded, but did not give me the actual weights (I accept that they do not know it right away) and said general things like it feels good to play with these pieces etc. It's fine, no big deal.
