Chess games database program?

I'm looking for recommendations on some good chess database software.  I'm not looking for gigantic databases of games -- though that is a nice plus -- so much as a way to digitize & keep track of my *own* games.  I've always kept records of all my "serious" games (and in fact I still have hundreds, if not thousands, of them, going back 15 years), but it's always been on paper, and that's so 20th century.

Ideally, I'm thinking I want something that can easily:

  • import games from either PGN format or by hand- or board-entry
  • catalogs games by date, event, opponent, ECO code, etc.
  • search through the database to find matching games by position or opening
  • distinguish between my games and any other (GM) games, perhaps in different repositories
  • integrate with analysis tools like Crafty, or provide such tools
  • export to PGN or other vendor-independent format, if I should want to change programs in the future

I'm figuring once I find something I like and get going with it, I can just start importing all future games into it, and then work on digitizing my back-library as well.

What suggestions might anyone have?  Thanks in advance.

If you want a free database then ChessDB or Scid are probably the best. Google wilol find them easily enough. If you want to pay then either Chessbase or Chess Assistant will do the job nicely.

Spiffe I use Chessbase 10 and I like it. For less $$$ you should take a look at Chessbase Light Premium. I think this will do what you ask and more.
