Chess Library for Sale

Hello, I am seeking an advice on how best to sell a big chess library: almost 300 books in English, almost 200 books in Russian and a ton of chess videos.  Would be grateful for any suggestions.  Are there any buyers who would take all?  Should I split up and sell each book/video separately?

Here are links to the libraries:

Thank you so much!

Sadly, unless they include rare autographs in them, or contain extremely rare antique books, they are probably not worth too much. The cost of shipping such a library probably exceeds the value.

You could at least type up a list to show what you have.

Great library! I hope you are able to sell it. If you want to donate any books to our chess club, we will honor you with a nice plaque on the wall LOL.

I see several interesting titles I'd buy individually but too many titled that do not interest me to buy as a lot.

brother7, please let me know which books. I am open to selling books separately.

Thank you.

Very nice collection. Although most of the books are probably worth less than their original cost, you have a few that are out of print and hard to find. Baburin's Winning Pawn Structures, Kotov's Think Like a Grandmaster, and your four "Mastering the..." opening books command quite a nice price as used books on Amazon. You might want to contact a used bookstore and see what you can get for them. Good luck!

Edit: Just checked Amazon, and the Baburin book has an asking price of over $700.

Thank you to everybody who commented and for your advice.  It looks like the best way is to sell expensive books separately and donate what does not sell.  Most books are in great condition. There is a small number that has some issues.  Please let me know if you are interested in purchasing any of the books.

My kids played competitively and my husband has a “collector” personality so we ended up with 500 books and a ton of videos. Kids left for college and were not interested in keeping books so we are trying to downsize.

If you have the time to sell them individually, I would look to eBay.  You'll have to check prices realized for each book to ask a starting price that isn't too low. You'll also have to learn to grade each book accurately because I assume some are heavily used while others are hardly touched.  Also note that used hardcovers of classics will often bring a good price even if not in pristine condition.  Rare softcovers like Winning Pawn Structures by Baburin will also bring a good price, but anyone who would pay $700 has a screw lose.  I paid $45 for a used copy graded G+/VG-, but I was lucky.  Most go for a bit more.

Just so you know, one hell of a lot of chess players are notoriously cheap, in fact cheaper than cheap; I don't happen to be one of those.  I have a large chess book collection, some purchased new at retail prices, some new at discount prices while others used from book dealers, both amateur and professional, and several eBay sellers, but one in particular who conservatively grades his books.

On the other hand, if you want to sell them as a collection, Bob Long, the Thinkers' Press publisher, sells used chess books and may take them off your hand.  You can contact him at info@chessbutler.com.  Frankly, I have no idea what he would be willing to pay, but it's not going to be what you can get through individual sales.

Oh, by the way, jacmarreb, you will not get a lot out of Ishi Press reprints.  The print job is mediocre or worse to begin with.  Be sure to mention the date of publication and publisher if you list them on eBay; it is something I always check before I bid or buy.

Also, don't expect to get much out of old opening books unless they are classics, and even then it will usually be collectors who buy them.

Hello. If you’re still selling these books, PM me with a price quote for Anatoly Karpov’s Best Games, The Ultimate Colle, and the Susan Polgar DVD on the Colle-Zukertort.
