May I propose a safe-for-chess cat then.

Best kind of cat, too.

WTF!

It's beyond me how anyone not only tolerates cat behavior but considers it 'cute' when they consciously and apparently with 'malice aforethought' destroy things

You mean like a three year old drawing on the walls? You're right, nobody should tolerate those destructive critters.

@Gomer_Pyle That was so nice of you! One eye or not I am sure there isn't any other cat that would be as good.

I didn't even want a cat. My other two had passed a couple years ago and I was enjoying life with no ties. It took about one day before I was committed to her. The second day she had an emergency vet visit. She was too dehydrated and malnourished and the vet was suggesting euthanasia. I told them to try hydrate her and see how she looked then. They called later to say she recovered well. She was on a special diet for a while but now she's a normal active, playful, furry bit of mischief.

there is quite a difference between your progeny and what amounts to a feral animal that pretends to be domesticated

Three year olds are feral animals.

I understand that there are people who don't like cats. But I don't understand why anyone who doesn't like cats would want to post in this thread.

Unless they're deliberately trying to upset people.

Yes exactly, this was a light hearted thread about our furry friends. It wasn't a debate on whether you like cats or not. To post such an offensive photograph of a dead cat is not on. Go and create your own thread about how you hate cats if you want to!

I don't hate cats and I agree posting a pic of a dead cat went a little too far. I would just never have one for precisely the reasons the OP pointed out in his thread (i.e. "when she sees pieces then she goes ballistic"). They're just inherently destructive animals and as pets too independent/disloyal for my taste.

Oh I don't mind my cat goes ballistic, she just likes to play. I just need to get a beater set so she can play with them wink.png

I think you need to understand the difference between a feral cat and a domesticated cat. Domesticated cats are not feral. I would love to see you attempt to hold a feral cat!

Domesticated cats have been bread over thousands of years to be comfortable in our homes and friendly towards humans and adapt easily to different living situations.

Feral cats are wild animals born into a feral colony and most feral cats cannot be domesticated and do not transition well to being kept as indoor pets. Once grown they are not friendly towards people.

So there is no such thing as a domesticated cat 'pretending' to be feral.

Well ok then, but I'm still not gonna get you to feed my cat when I go on holiday happy.png

Cats are not disloyal particularly certain breeds for instance such as Burmese, Bengals and many others. They are extremely affectionate and bond strongly to their owners.

I had to go into hospital for 4 days and my Burmese howled the house down until I returned constantly searching for me. They are also an intelligent breed. Could open every door in the house apart from one. In this instance he would jump up on the handle and my other Burmese would grab onto his waist for added weight to open that door! They did this often.

He would leave dead mice for me in my frying pan we ended up having to put all pans away and not leave any out then he found a way to open that cupboard to find the pans and leave his gifts for us. He recognised these were are utensils for food, he made that connection.

He played fetch with balls for hours on end and craved our company. It distressed him to be apart from us.

Description of the Burmese breed:

Temperament. The Burmese is highly intelligent, affectionate and extremely loyal. They love being with people, but also gets along well with other cats and even dogs.

Are you sure he meant the mice to be gifts for you? It sounds like he may have wanted you to fry his mice for him. Everything tastes better fried.

No unfortunately they were definitely meant for me 😄

I should state for the record that |I don't hate three year old children. I just think they're feral animals.grin.png (Actually, there's a particular three year old girl that has stolen my heart)

Anyway, to get back on track. This is chess and cats after all. Here's my vicious little critter again. I poured a plastic Drueke set on the floor and she chose that pawn to play with. You can see by her eye she is in full beast mode.

We had a Calico cat that also would gift us dead mice.

The younger Tabby was actually afraid of mice and would run away from them.

The Tabby was definitely swatting my Chess pieces while the Calico didn’t care.  She obviously was not a Chess player like the Tabby.
