Of the primers, I like W.R. Hartston's The Penguin Book of Chess Openings. It gives a short survey of some of the most important openings, and has a lot of little tips. Paul Van der Sterren's Fundamental Chess Openings is a more recent survey.
FCO - Fundamental Chess Openings by Paul Van de Sterren is a good book. http://www.amazon.com/FCO-Fundamental-Paul-Van-Sterren/dp/1906454132
What is the best book about chess openings? Thanks
