I've stored many of my sets in GSI Outdoors clear polycarbonate "gear case" containers for over 10 years, with no ill effects. Like the Pelican cases you listed, the GSI cases have an airtight gasket that keeps atmosphere in/out. I think it has done very well at keeping my sets mostly crack free... I have a few cracked pieces, but the cracks are shallow and not very wide. Pretty good for half a dozen full sets stored in these cases for over 10 years, when not being used!
I'd say go for it... but check out the GSI boxes (available on Amazon.com) as another option. I personally like the fact that you can see the pieces through the clear GSI plastic... but this might be a disadvantage if you plan on storing your pieces in a room with sunlight exposure. For travel, the Pelican case would undoubtably be superior.
hi all. So I was reading the posts here on storage chess pieces and was browsing amazon. Has anyone used these type cases? I know they make great cases but looks like they might be a good option of chess pieces also. Either remove the main chunk or foam or cut spaces n both sides to fit the pieces?
