Congrats @VBerriz on finishing up the house remodel. I know you’ve been working that for awhile. Everyone has given you great suggestions. It’ll be fun to see what you decide on. I like the poster ideas, especially the ones of the old masters.

@VBerriz I'm curious, what are the measurements of the table? Tabletop length x width x height. Leg-room measurement from floor to bottom of the table apron. Square size is 2.25" I'm assuming? And no drawer, correct?

Did you take pics of the outside and inside of the shipping crates? I'd love to see how it was packed to safely arrive from Canada.

Since Rob was already making me a custom board, I actually had him craft it with 55mm squares - I like having a bit more space on the board, but have a 2.25” that I rarely use.

Height of both furniture pieces is 29”, and the table is 30” deep (player to player), with 6.25” between the player and the board. Width is 34”, with 8.25” between the edge and the board on each side.

I should have taken photos of the crates! Superbly packed, each piece was wrapped in soft foam, then extensive bubble wrap, then a heavy cardboard box was cut to fit, and all of this placed in 2 custom wood crates. Quite frankly, he could have shipped in just the cardboard boxes and it might have arrived safely, but I’m glad he went the extra mile.

@stumOnner was the inspiration for this table, he advised me to make it asymmetrical in order to have room for a book, etc on one side, so I took his advice but made the asymmetric piece movable in the chess cabinet.

No drawer, there was no need as I have a dedicated cabinet for everything - 26” from floor to the first wood support bracket.

@VBerriz I love the thoughtful design of the movable side-cabinet where when the 2 pieces of furniture are joined together it forms a continuous top surface. AND since the side-cabinet is movable, it's possible to switch it over to the other side for Left-Handers! Hah! Not everyone has a big space to dedicate to chess equipment. Two separate pieces is much easier to maneuver around in a room than one big piece.

26 inches of vertical legroom from floor to the bottom support is perfect. I find Drueke tables lack vertical legroom either because of the height of the table legs or the drawer. Nowadays chair and table heights are pretty standard across the furniture industry. But this was not always the case. thumbup

Love the table and cabinet! Straight Up chess board is an option to go on the wall and show off a favorite set….

Possibly a checkered rug?

I like natural fabrics and I find the interior not very cozy if it does not have curtains, carpets, napkins and fabrics in general, so I would recommend maybe some kind of carpet or decorations from a linen store - https://en.linentexture.com/. It would make the room more comfortable.

GoogleImage "Vertical Chess" for some ideas, also etsy.com has some vertical magnetic and non-magnetic stuff...

Or you might be interested in some Posters with Chess Openings.

You could cover the electrical box with a vertical chessboard in a frame, which could also be used to display your sets. It is not fabric, but i figure it would be easy to move out of the way, if you needed to access the box, which probably doesn't happen often enough to make this an issue.

If you have a Five Below store in your area, check for a Yard Chess set. The pieces are painted on wooden discs (about 7cm across) light enough to wall mount with double sided tape.

How quickly and fickle life is! I’m moving, and will be selling my chess table and cabinet. Would anyone on the forum have any interest? I’m in South Florida, likely looking for around $800 + shipping (or $700 if local, as it’s less hassle).
