Chess set for a beginner
i think it's called the best chess set or something like that on amazon. or chess set in a box or something. seems pretty good.
Best deal may be a set that includes pieces and board.
World Chess Championship Set (Academy Edition) is a solid option. Weighted plastic pieces designed by Daniel Weil and a folding cardboard board. Maybe folding is not what you want?
By solid board did you mean wood and non folding?
World Chess Championship Set (Home Edition) is wooden pieces and non-folding wooden board. I like the Library Edition as it uses a folding board from Rechapados Ferrer made in Spain.
Rechapados Ferrer boards are a good compromise from solid wood, IMO. They have excellent veneer finishes with an MDF core so they then to be less expensive.
I've ordered from Chess House and Regency Chess (in Canada). If weighted pieces are what you want, a very popular plastic weighted set is the Bobby Fischer Ultimate Chess Pieces. Pricey but what makes them special is that the weights are molded into the plastic. They wont rattle or come loose.
Otherwise, stick to the generic weighted sets from whoever you order a board from. They usually come from the same supplier in China. We've all had them
.
My favourite set is a flex board from Chess House and silicone pieces in a nylon chess bag. Indestructible, especially around kids. I've broken the generic weighted plastic pieces (albeit, after years of good games... a piece broke in a very cold place when it was dropped). I get it, this isn't what you want.
Hey guys, just started to get into chess and I was looking for a replacement for my 7 dollar plastic chess board. Preferably looking for a solid board and not a mousepad kind of board. I like the big weighted pieces and im not looking to spend to much money. Any recommendations?
