Chess set in Fisher vs Spassky 1992 rematch

Sort:
ifekali

This is a modern and cheap version of Dubrovnik chess set made in Subotica, Serbia. It is weighted but narowly based and therefore a bit unstable. The knight is ugly and simplified. This is nothing like the Fischer's favourite chess set.

final_wars

no, no apology.

Private = Public

I look forward to seeing the remake, you know when you use YOUR recently acquired version of Dubrovnik 2 and not the NOJ version of Dubrovnik 2 that was in the video.

You did make that video about the partial Dubrovnik 1 set, on a glass table filmed only from the side, you said it was an honour.

Strategy, strategy, strategy...so transparent to me.

ifekali

You make no sense.

Sorry to have dragged your name into whatever this thread has become.

I also have followed Jonas on his website and seen all of his videos, some many times.  I also have gone through his blog from beginning to end at least 2 times.

I also have looked at the Noj web site where they have pictures and some videos.  And yes, I have seen the other videos on these sets.

final_wars is wrong about the partial set video.  It never existed.  Yes there are pictures on Jonas' Best Chessmen Ever site as well as the Noj site and the museum site.  That's it.

In the video with the radio interview of Bobby Fischer, Bobby goes on about how nice the 1950 set was and that it was impossible to get.  Bobby never owned this version of the set.  And this was the set they used in the 1992 Rematch.

Bobby then talks about the set he is pictured with on the cover of Life magazine and many other places.  He said this set was made in Croatia and he bought it in Zagreb in 1968 or 1970 and cannot remember exactly when.  This is the set that was stolen, according to Bobby.

Now, Jonas has bought a 1950 set as well as a 1960's version, relatively recently.  He has talked about these on this forum and in his blog.

I would say that Jonas is currently the expert on Dubrovnik sets, all versions of them and the history.

To say that he is hiding any information and telling falsehoods is utterly ridiculous.  There is no reason for him to do such a thing.  He does not manufacture or retail any versions of the Dubrovnik set at all.

Now, he has designed and sells a chess set, The Best Chessmen Ever set.  I own 2 of those sets, one made by Noj and a Stage 2 version with stainless steel bases, the other a Stage 1 version he had made in India.  Both sets are very nice.

I also own a Noj Dubrovnik II in Natural Walnut and have one on order in Red.

I am somewhat intrigued by the Original 1950 version, but not enough to buy one.

So, final_wars you do owe Jonas an apology.  And yes, this is a public place and not private.

Dubrovnik 2

hmmm

NOJ version, YOUR version, 1001 versions

or perhaps my own

CUSTOM version

hmmm

which one should I choose for Final Wars

understand?

I would of course prefer to use the REAL Fischer set but that is probably lost forever now

This is the REAL Fischer set

1. what is going to happen to your chess ratings in the future?

2. what is going to happen to the value of your chess collections in the future?

3. how much money are you really going to make selling cloned chess sets in the future?

Ja, you can see genius but you will never understand it.

Eyechess

Ja, you need to leave this forum and go anywhere else.

final_wars

No, I need to leave this planet, that is what I really need.

final_wars

On the Final Wars website there will never be a Forum section :)

Only a Topics section that selected people can post to, like Grandmasters.

Did I mention that I meet and play my game with a chess GM OTB on a regular basis?

I guess all the "experts" will have to go somewhere else to try and impress each other with their "knowledge".

But never on my site.

I have been using this chess forum for a reason, I have been testing it.

I have made my decision, not worth the effort to maintain a Forum. No moderators required, no administration required, no "experts".

I find it funny that someone who claims to be so concerned about the precise set that Fischer owned and who said that he wanted to ‘use the “real” Fischer set as the basis for [his] game’ shows a Zagreb set, not a Dubrovnik, as his prototype game on his website!

For real entertainment, check out his legal page. It looks like he spent more time on that than on the game. And I particularly like the fact that he has taken a couple of Zagreb sets, mutilated some of the pawns, and is now claiming some sort of rights over that.

Izmet gets my vote for integrity, honesty, and expertise. The other guy, best to just ignore him...obviously not right in the head. Cheers, John C.

I'll second that !

final_wars

I used an Indian clone of Zagreb as it was the most practical solution for creating a prototype set, yes 2 sets were used to create it.

Perhaps you have never seen a prototype before. Please check the legal page again, the section on the set, it says "no matter the design style"

Pity none of you have ever played the game, I have played a lot with a Grandmaster and have watched Grandmasters playing it.

Yes I want to use Dubrovnik 2 as the basis for my set but it is not easy to establish the most accurate version, Fischers set has been lost and most of the versions available are just trying to exploit his name even though there are significant differences.

The good news for all of you is that there will soon be another cloned version of the "Fischer Set" available for you to acquire and add to your collection.

This set will be cloned from a recently acquired version of Dubrovnik 2.

Then you can almost touch genius once again.

Do you know what the really funny thing is to me?

On the internet, in any forum, nobody ever actually comments about the ACTUAL game, not even a "I think the game sucks", its like a taboo subject, shhh, don't mention it whatever you do.

But they have a LOT to say about whatever.

:)

final_wars

Just to be accurate about facts.

He only acquired the Dubrovnik 2 "Fischer Set" a month or two ago.

Check his video if you want to confirm.

Just to be accurate.

You will never buy anything? really?

Don't you want first offer on the prototype board man, in the photos?

Amusing, then, that you tell us ‘there will soon be another cloned version of the “Fischer Set” available for you to acquire and add to your collection’ and that you want to use ‘the “real” Fischer set as the basis for [your] game’.

And what does it matter when Jonas got his Dubrovnik 2? That just shows how hard they are to come by.

final_wars

Please continue to vent your fustrations about your life at your keyboard.

It requires no effort or original thought.

final_wars

Did I say that I recently acquired a version of Dubrovnik2?

Did I say that I would be cloning the recently acquired version of Dubrovnik 2?

I think not.

Try and see the obvious man.

p.s.

thank you for commenting on my game, you are probably the first person to do so on the internet in 6 months since the website went up.

It is not a chess variant, it is a variant of the ancient game, the original source, just like chess, shogi, korean, the list is endless.

final_wars

I tried to be polite.

I guess that you also think that Shogi must be a chess variant.

Shogi uses 3 boards, the main board is 9x9.

My game uses 3 boards, the main board is 9x9.

Chess uses one 8x8 board.

Do you insist on calling my game a chess variant because you feel that chess might be threatened in some way?

I could have called the pieces anything, it was my decision.

p.s.

I did not want to change chess, I wanted to fix chess for the players.

I consider chess to be a broken game now, due to powerful computers and centuries of theory.

I wanted to design a game that emphasized natural ability.

That is all that I wanted to do.

From Wikipedia: Shogi "is the most popular of a family of chess variants native to Japan"
