CHESS SET question

I have a cheap set but i am wanting to get something decent.

I have about $25 - $35 to spend.

so would you recommend a nice vinal tournament set or a cheaper wood set?

The glass sets look good but aren't pratical, i have kids and it would last no time.

I'm leaning towards the tournament set.

Can I have you opinions?

I don't know exactly what you are choosing between, but nothing beats a good wooden chess set, in my opinion. I have a few sets, but my undisputed favorite is a good-quality 8-inch King wooden set from Italy.

You can get a wooden chess set at Wal-Mart for $19.95.

If I were on such a budget, looking for a perfectly serviceable set of tournament proportions, I'd go for a weighted plastic set (hopefully matte) and a vinyl board.

And I'd check out the usual online suspects.

Looks cool and nicely weighted.  I got the Natural and Black colored set.  It's by House of Staunton who also made my wooden set.  They are the best, in my opinion.

Don't get a cheap wood set.  "Cheap wood" is worse to me than having "nice plastic."  I have a cheap wood set, or two, and I regret buying them.

Something on this page, from the USCF, should be more than fine:

The second set, quadruple weighted, with four queens, meets your budget.

thanks everybody for the good input.

I have had alot of different sets and I would recommend the tournament set. A vinyl board and some weighted pieces are the way to go, in my opinion.
