MCH,those are fine boxes, but quite expensive! The Pleasant Time Industries boxes are less expensive and of extremely high quality....I'm only stating this in case you wish to consider anymore boxes of this caliber.

I have found a variety of really inexpensive, yet quite classy, wooden boxes at various hobby type stores. You may wish to check those out,if you have any in your parts.

Good luck

I've been looking for hobby/craft boxes. None seem to be in the 'sweet spot' as to size. They're all too small or too large.

Pawnerai

Maybe not this exact one, but concept is interesting for home storage of pieces. Dustproof displaying of pieces. Search: acrylic case display step etc.

For all you guys with multiple sets.

I would actually love to do something like this.

Alas, as much as I try and get my oldest to move out he is still here, occupying my future hobby/game room.

A table for chess, a table for a war game, a TV, and 2 Sonos speakers. I would find a place for that cabinet.

magictwanger

I have the cabinet, but not enclosed The Sonos speakers reside in a different room.Damn they're good!

Yes they are.

I started with a pair of Ones. I now have 6 Ones, 2 Symfonisks, a Beam, and 2 Moves. I think I am done, but you never know ...

magictwanger

You're not done until you experience a pair of new Play 5's with the sub!

GM caliber sound.Actually,I'd never have believed it if a pal did not get it first.

@Brynmr That's really cool! I don't have enough sets yet. Actually I am not even sure I have room for that large storage unit but it would be cool to have.

I have 2 shelves I can clear in my book case. That's 2 sets! grin.png grin.png No doors though.

Brynmr

@MCH818 Quite the extensive and exotic collection. Nice cabinet.

When I see fantastic collections and displays like that,I realize what a complete plebeian I am.

king,?

Brynmr

I got ONE set so eat your hearts out.

magictwanger

I'd far prefer to have a better ability in actual play, rather than owning nice sets.

I'm currently attempting to stop my collecting and focusing on how poor a player I am.

magictwanger

I don't know about that one! It's definitely great to "learn", but as William once said....

"The Play's The Thing".

Brynmr

There is play but also collecting. I've been pondering this lately because I'm considering another set (or 2) which is weird to me since I already have a set. What do I need another one for? But consider Jay Leno and his car collection. He has several hundred cars yet he loves driving and desires to drive better. Paul Newman an ever better example. He collected race cars and was heavily involved in racing. We love the game but some of us also love/appreciate the objects so much that want to collect the ones we find most beautiful - and that's ok. There's nothing wrong with collecting (even if you never play the game) as long as it brings happiness. Collecting, playing, learning - it's all good. We are free to choose any way we like.

magictwanger

No arguement here.I own 23 sets and was just making a point about my chess priority.

Tell me about collecting...I had a father who was a series collector and donated to the Smithsonian.

I,myself,collected LP's for years.I had over 3000 classical records.I've inherited the bug.

Still,in chess, the real satisfaction is learning to play well,as far as where I wish to go from here. It's all good.

A web search turned up this for a custom-sized display case at a reasonable (relative to the chess pieces, probably) cost.  (Note: no affiliation, blah, blah, blah.)

@GrandPatzerDave Haha That's the place I purchased my display case I use for my chess board and pieces. It is fine but the quality isn't so great. There was glue residue seeping out and the sides and top was not fully aligned everywhere. Don't get me wrong. I am happy with it. The case keeps dust and other things away from the chess set

Hahaha, good to know.  That's probably an artifact of doing so many customs and having to hire extra help...  ;-)
