Chess Software for Macs?

Sort:

I have been reading up on some of the often mentioned chess software programs...it is a little overwhelming for someone just getting into the game...

So, I wanted to hear from Mac users...what chess software, programs do you recommend?

I have read great things about Chess Base, but see it is only for PC...

Thanks for any insight!

ChessX is a really great free PGN browser and chess database program with releases for both Macintoshes and Windows machines. A new version 1.2.0 ("Typewriter") was just officially released yesterday with numerous enhancements. You can use it with the free stockfish engine. The stockfish engine is the strongest chess engine available.

HIARCS is the go-to option for commercial OS X chess software, as best I know. I suspect it's more a competitor to Houdini et al than Chess Base, but I don't know much about Chess Base, sorry.
