Hello,

I have recently started a chess club at school and would be grateful for any advise on beginner books for young children. Basic openings and tactics would be a must.

Thank you again.

Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess, although it's mostly about mating exercises. But that is an excellent place to start and the format of the book is good for young readers.

You should probably use the search function or Google (with site:chess.com) to look around here, I remember that this has been discussed at length before.

I'm not terribly knowledgeable about children's books, but the "Winning Chess" series by Yasser Seirawan, of which "Play Winning Chess" is the first, always struck me  as being very good.

To have a chess club you must have lots of material that you can show to the members. If you are looking for mate problems appropriate for your club, below is a good book.

1001 deadly checkmates john nunn

For endgame book below is a good one

When you are teaching chess to kids, make the tone of your voice pleasant. Change topics from time to time to keep them not getting antsy. Kids do enjoy solving mate problems and tactics that wins material.Teach them endgame like opposition, queen and king vs pawn near promotion, rook and king endgame mate etc.
