ChessBazaar's Romanian- Hungarian National Tournament Set Black/Boxwood Version
CB’s website lists the king base diameter as 40mm for all versions of the set. Can anyone tell me if this is the original diameter or the later, enlarged base version?
Really liking this set, and the ebonized version is hella-cheap right now. Do you think I should get the lacquered version though? Or just get the plain old buff version and accept that it will wear with time?
Not the biggest fan of super glossy chess pieces but kinda want the set to last at the same time...

Just bought one myself but in Red Stained Boxwood for $85. The ebonized boxwood along with golden rosewood are selling for $89 on Royal Chess Mall's Etsy store.

Say GoodNightMike, I now own all 4 flavors of this great set, albeit not all came in pristine shape but with a little writing to CB customer service plus my addition of "sealing" two of the 4 sets (Crimson stained and Ebonized) I took matters into my own hands, literally, and put a lacquered protection against stain rub-offs or the wearing down of the ebonized pieces. With this sealing process they maintain the original color with a bit of a beautiful "jewel tone" finish on both sets. A few pictures with different lighting setups outdoors and indoors. I had left the newly sprayed pieces outside for a few days so that the lacquer fumes could dissipate and wouldn't have a noticeable order to me or my opponents. Overall I think it 's a lot cheaper than buying their lacquered crimson set which retails on their website for nearly 2C notes but could be bought with some of their discount codes. This set plays well and I wanted the black ebonized version to round out the grouping that I have. The Sheesham set is the only one with smaller diameters for the King and Queen but I'm ok with that. I'll have Noj knocking on my door very soon with 3 beautiful sets coming so Kris Kringle will be busy in the next couple of weeks in my home.
