Chessconnect: a free chrome extension for electronic chessboards

I just tried beta 3.3.16 and it works flawlessly with my DGT Bluetooth board. Thanks for you outstanding work on this chrome extension.

@joernupde: I am still very happy with your plugin. But I see just one issue. And I think it has to do something with the same issue I have on the Chess.com Android App. As you maybe remember I have the Millennium King Performance. Now here is the problem, After I finish a game (Well, most of the time the other player gives up). When I select "NEW" on the King Performance, the connection with the board is lost and almost all LED's are blinking. I can only start a new game by turning off the Chesslink, and turn it back on. Is this normal behavior? Or can you fix this in the extension?

Best regards,

Martin

I just sent version 3.3.16 out to the beta testers. If and when they give their concent, the new version can finally go public. 🥳

Should anybody else be interesting in participating in the beta testing, just sent me your email and I will give you the link to the beta. Those who already have the link, please feel free to share with anyone who might be interested. Just be aware that I will only notify those on my list, when I start working on 3.4 and the beta becomes unstable again.

Many thanks to everyone who is contributing to this project! 🙏

OK thank you

I will send you my email to try to help with my electronic chess boards

Best regards

Does this happen with bloth Bluetooth and USB?

Smartie74

@joernupde This happens with USB. With bleutooth the connection gets lost everytime when I click on "Play"

Bluetooth connection dropping when the URL changes is normal behavior some platforms (it's a bug in the web bluetooth api). Did you try reconnecting after the game has started. That is what I normally do.

Nevertheless, I will look into your USB problem. I only have a King Competition but that's probably close enough.

Hi

Loving chessconnect! Can someone please advise - is it possible to set up an endgame position on my Air and spar that position against an engine on either chess.com or Lichess. If possible are there instructions? Many thanks.

I think you can do this on Chessnut's own app and the included engine, through the board editor. I don't think this is possible using chess.com or Lichess?

On Lichess you can start a game "From position". That is supported by Chessconnect.

On chess.com, you can set up a position and then start "Practice against computer". I am not sure, if this works with Chessconnect. I will check later and if it does not work, I will make it work in 3.4.

Can you set up the position physically using pieces on the Chessnut though and have it automatically reflected on Lichess/chess.com? That'll be a very nice feature to have!

joernupbde

Great idea, Michael! I put it on the list of 3.4 features.

That is a fantastic idea! This extension moves the Air (and my Pro if it ever comes in ... grrrr!) very close to the top of the list for e-boards, the Evo is still #1 in my opinion (especially with my modded Zagreb set), but it is so nice to be able to very closely replicate the Evo playing experience on the Air.

Jörn, I just played a quick computer game on Lichess with version 3.3.17 on my Chessnut Air and all worked well. Very quick, connected easily, moves played well and accurate. It was a continued game that I had sitting there (for testing), so I set the pieces up to match the board and connected.

On a slightly different note - What is the lowest latency anyone has used? I have it down now to 25 ms and it still seems to work well. Just wondering how low other have it set to.

joernupbde

I usually play with 0ms latency on all boards.

That is great news. Will put all my devices to that.

Thanks for the responses everyone. My intention was to ask if it was possible to set up a position on the air and then play against the computer on chess.com/lichess. Thanks for your efforts joernupbde.

Last beta is a big shot. DGT works with lichess and chess.com without any move error. Most of the clock issue's are also solved. It's just like a dream. thx Joern trophies

Version 3.3 is a very impressive step.

joernupbde

Thanks Dirk. I should mention that several people other than me spent a significant amount of their time on version 3.3. @Parlue is one of them. 🙏

Chessconnect now works with DGT Bluetooth boards - or is this functionality still in development? Thanks for any information and for all of your efforts!

joernupbde

The new version 3.3, which is currently in beta test, does. The current version 3.2 does not. I expect 3.3 to go public within the next 10 days.
