Announcing draw offers and maybe even reading out chat messages is another idea I should have had myself. 😊

Personally, I would not want chat automatically announced. I would find it distracting. After all, face to face rated games are played in silence. Chess for me is a meditative pastime. Chat is different to the move announcements, which are purely functional. Chat introduces an interpersonal element, which activates parts of the mind that I'd prefer to stay quiet so I can concentrate on the chess.

Same here. All those sorts of options are best made a configuration item anyway (e.g. a check box) with defaults tbd (generally, "off" would by my preference).

Right. Makes sense. Will do.

If only the app developers for electronic chess hardware were as receptive to user feedback as you, Joer.

DGT really aren't. I contacted them to see what they were going to do about making chess.com work with their boards as they had adevertised that they boards would work and there is even, still, a toggle swith on here for DGT boards(not Pegasus) and they were very flippant and dismissive. I'd have thought that if DGT had any pride at all, they'd have paid a developer to do what Jörn has done. Particularly with the growing competition in the market.

I have updated the public beta to version 3.4.3. Added slight improvements to reliability and completely rewrote the i18n code (why google considers the i18n library a security risk is beyond me). Didn't do too much testing so far but it worked for a couple of test games.

Approval by google is still pending. So it might take a day or two before this version becomes available. Featurewise, this version is very close to next official release.

Question for people who use an Android tablet and the Kiwi browser.
I want to connect a BT speaker to my tablet but I am concerned that it may interfere with the Chessconnect connection.

Has anyone connected a BT speaker and played games with it while the speaker is connected to BT? The volume on my tablet is just no loud enough for me to hear the knock sound for a move.

joernupbde

I could just make a louder knock sound... 🤔

Rsava

I think it is loud enough as when I played out in my dining room table it was fine.

In my office/chess nook I had some low music playing and I have a fan going (heat issues in this room due to all the computer equipment) so it was harder to hear.

Funny because it is one of the things they say is a "pro" of the tablet, the great sound.

I am going to play around with it some more, see if I can get it better.

That begs for a slider or spin config... wink.png

Does you speaker have a line in?

I had massive problems yesterday evening with the current beta and my Chessnut Pro. So, please be careful with this version. I'll provide a fix as quickly as possible.

Edit: it worked fine this morning with my Mac. So either it's a race condition or it's related to ChromeOS. I'll investigate...

Hello community,
I am submitting an idea to you, in addition to technical requests.

Jörn's extension is great (no dispute! wink)
It works with many chess boards, OS and under lichess and chess.com.

Why not create under lichess (but it must be the same under chess.com)? => a "chessconnect-jorn" team (this is an example of a name)
So for those who wish, it is the possibility of playing with opponents who, like them, have a connected chessboard.

Unfortunately I don't have time to organize this.

Free idea and even if there is no echo I will still enjoy reading this forum and playing with chessconnect happy.
Good to all

joernupbde

I do like the idea of a team of Chessconnect-ed players and would definitely participate. (Would remove the "-jorn" suffix from the name, though. 😇)

GeorgeGoodnight

Team Chessconnect, great idea. If anyone fancies a game with a connected board, just let me know. I'm in the UK.

Toni Liberon over on Lichess organises tournaments for people with eboards. I played in one once and it went on for and long, long time.

How well does it work with the games, one after another?

Is there time to setup the board in between games?

Yeah, there was often quite a while between games. Drop him a line, he's very helpful. He used to post on here in the DGT club.

Rsava

Oh, I am in the e-board club he started (he found me in the DGT club here).

Once I am done with the tournaments I am playing in here I will play exclusively over there, especially after yesterday's debacle of a game I played. A "Chessconnect-ed" club over there would be great, if someone is so inclined. I might even join one here, but I won't play here, only over there.

Just as an FYI for people - user Datasmith over there organizes a somewhat regular tournament of 60|30 games with a decent turnout of regulars. 18 players in the latest. Meet in the club room every Thursday (19:00 ET) to play, if games need to be rescheduled it is usually easy to do. I have rescheduled 4 of the 5 games so far. A couple of us use our e-boards.

Actually, his name is Toni Libralon: Toni_Libralon
