Chessconnect: a free chrome extension for electronic chessboards

Extension works beautifully on my Chessnut Air, ever since the first versions.

I only have a minor issue: even with all the sound options disabled and volume turned down to minimum, i get a voice announcement every time the game ends... is there any way to disable it?

joernupbde

@LarsenB: I am very thrilled that the new version rolled out without any issues so far!

About the result announcement: I could link this to the "make move announcements" switch. What is the general oppinion about this?

KNAVFAR

Congratulations from me as well and I am very much looking forward to the launch of the version on android phones. Once again, thank you very much for your work

joernupbde

Thank you @KNAVFAR. My plan is to starting working on Android (and iOS) at the end of this month. It's going to take me a while, though. I might add some new chess sites along the way. Chessable is high up on my list. But others will follow.

Personally, I think it would be perfect linked to the same switch (and would not require an extra UI element) but whatever is the preferred choice is fine by me. Thanks

My dgt blue tooth board works fine with the new version off chessconnect. The only remarque I have is the " voice".

I can choose between 3 voices in Dutch but those voices are a mix of english and dutch and is hard to understand what they say. Is there a possibility where I can choose for the English voice ?

joernupbde

@Ceefee29: Good point. That's a bug. I will fix this asap. Nevertheless, is some willing to make a dutch translation?

I did have the plugin update dialog come up in a different language than I expected. I don't know what I have agreed to, but I hope I chose the right option.
@joernupbde As an aside, I play sometimes with one of my boards and sometimes without. However, the plugin seems to be active even when I haven't connected my board. This sometimes caused issues (I have reported separately), but also noticed today that I have the move announcements. I only really want these when I have connected the board, so I either have to keep going in and out of the settings or disable the plugin. Ideally I would only want Chess Connect to do anything when a board is connected. I realise this may be a tricky thing to manage if you lose connection part way through a game, but thought it might be useful feedback at least.

joernupbde

Actually that should not be too tricky to do. I'll fix this.

Congratulations for this amazing help given to the OTB chess community! Some quick observations:
1. The extension does an infinite retry to connect when the board is turned off. Maybe just disable auto connect feature or stop retrying after 10 connsecutive failed attempts.
2. I love the DGT 3000 clock integration !!! Would be really a big improvement if it would display a simplified annotation(instead of Pe2e4 just e4) or just make it configurable. Also using the clock beep instrad of the computer sound would make the computer interaction almost seamles. I want the interaction with the PC to be minimized as much as possible and moving the oponent move announcement (beep) and bad position announcement via the clock would be a fantastic improvement!
joernupbde

Thank you for your feedback @ron_75. I like all your suggestions and added them to my ToDo list. The simplified notation is somewhat more tricky to do. But I will give this another go.

Hello Joern, hope all iswell.

As I'm getting back to my chessboard after some pause time, I wanted to ask if the extension works well also with Chess.com set to the "beta" version.

Thanks !

Hi @agatti1970!

I've missed you! About chess.com beta, I honestly don't know. chess.com promised to inform me about future updates relevant to Chessconnect. So, in theory it should work nicely. But I did not test.

ron_75
@joernupbde maybe this helps https://github.com/arnsholt/dgtdriver/blob/master/src/main/java/org/riisholt/dgtdriver/ClockDisplayMessage.java
joernupbde

Thanks @ron_75. It's not the clock that's the problem. It's computing the abbreviated notation.

This is fixed in 4.2.2beta which will soon move later to the normal release.

Since this seems to cause some confusion: since 4.0 it is no longer required (or possible) to enter the username for your lichess tokens. You just need to tnter your token and press the Tab key. The username will then be displayed automatically.

I thought it would be easier that way.

I would highly recommend you specifically indicate to "Press tab to fetch automatically the username after entering the API token". I was going crazy trying to figure out how to enter my username since the field was greyed out and not accessible. I generated and deleted a ton of Lichess API tokens, thinking the problem was with my API token since I couldn't do anything about the username evil
But otherwise, this extension is a God-send and working flawlessly with both my DGT and Millenium boards. I paid you 3 coffees, you deserve it tournaments

Thank you for the coffees/teas and for the advice! I will make a hotfix to the current version to change this. thumbup
