Hi Joern, been a while. Just tried out the latest version with my older style (proprietary charging connecting) DGT Bluetooth e-board, Windows 11. All good except for the correct opponent move chime, which got locked onto repeat a couple of times despite no moves being made, and the wood knock after my move disappearing in one game. Otherwise great. Sorry no debug log.

The "all good" sounding for no apparent reason might be caused by the board sending some incorrect readings. This is normal behavior for some boards. It is hard to filter out these noise readings without impeding the overall responsiveness. But this is an aspect that I am still working on.

@Bloooey: The Chessconnect app for Android is just around the corner. If all goes well, I will have a public beta within the next week or two. The app will do exactly what you are looking for.

I have literally just finished the implementation and am now facing a rather lenghty testing protocol.

You're a hero. I eagerly await this app!

Sneak preview:

The app supports the same boards as the extension. With all connection methods. Meaning, if the board can do Bluetooth and USB, you can do either with the app. That took A LOT of work.

That's especially handy for boards without a built in battery.

Outstanding work, Jöern. Looks very good. Can't wait to get it on my tablet and phone to test.

Thanks for the explanation Joern. Which boards do not behave like this? Certabo? Might be time for me to get a new board if this turns out to be an intractable problem. DGT e-boards seem a bit dinosaur-like in a couple of ways.

Yes, this extension is free. Of course, Jöern does like his tea (although that is not necessary at all).

He does this as a service to the chess world and those of us with e-boards appreciate him immensely for it.

Read up on it here:

And feel free to ask questions.

That's great

Wow, amazing stuff. I use my Mac to play chess on, but the Android app gives me another option. I will give it a go. The battery on my Samsung Galaxy Tab doesn't last long, nowhere as long as my iPad.
Great work Joern. Thanks for all you do.

The Android app is now ready for closed beta testing. Hence, I am looking for volunteers to participate in the closed beta phase. If you are willing to test drive the app and provide feedback, please PM me an email address that I can add to the beta testing group.

Obviously, you will need an Android device and an electronic chess board. O:-)

@rsava: You are already in the group. ;-)

andrewrimmer

@joernupbde please could me in! I have an android phone & tablet and a few electronic boards :-o. I also have similar Apple devices when you come around to iOS testing.

joernupbde

Thanks to everybody who volunteered for beta testing. Unfortunately, Google requires the app to be tested by at least 12 beta testers. So, I still need some more volunteers... O:-)

Hi Jörn, I've played two rapid games with the app on a Samsung Tab 8 with my DGT Smartboard. Both were flawless. The only thing is it didn't drive my DGT3000 clock. But my guess that is something for later?

For a Beta that is outstanding.

I had to have my tablet in landscape mode as in portrait, the last rank of the board was cut off. I'm guessing the screen shot is of an Android phone?

Thanks again.

You're joking. For a free app? Wow.

I hope you get 12. How many do you have so far, if you don't mind me asking? I may be able to get another one, I'll see.

joernupbde

Yepp. For a free app. But I do not mind high quality standards. So far, I have 7 beta testers. And so far, the app seems to be working quite well for an initial release. :-)

Hello Jòrn, I am currently traveling so do not have access to my boards but will be able to get to it Friday and test with a couple of different devices and boards. Good to see the post by George about the success so far.

I may also have another "person" to help test the new app if still needed by the end of the week.

GeorgeGoodnight

Just finished a game on Android with the updated beta and that too was flawless here on chess.com. Didn't miss a beat. This was with my Pegasus. I won too, which is always nice.

Amazing.

GeorgeGoodnight

There you go, a rapid game on Lichess with Pegasus on new updated beta version.

I'm glad to say there is nothing to report and that all was just perfect.

I'm really liking this Pegasus now. I haven't played with it for years due to the rubbish initial experience with it.
What can I say. Let's hope there are more beta testers coming soon. Will it just have to stay in beta and be available by invitation only if there aren't enough testers?

I think you're going to be impressed Richard. ;o)

I need 12 testers testing for at least to apply for a release. I don't really know what qualifies as "testing".
