Oh man, it's going to be so cool, I can hardly wait.

I expect the beta to be available towards the end of this week. You could do some testing, then. happy

@GeorgeGoodnight: Sorry, I lost track of that one. Is that a general problem that I can reproduce?

I have been unable to reproduce it.

I think I've been able to replicate the clock issue with DGT Smartboard.

I started the game. It was the first game of the session and the usb cable was already connected to my iMac. Now, sometimes it works fine and other times I have disconnect and reconnect for chessconnect to see the board. So in this instance I had to do this. Once I had, the clocks times were reversed and the opponents clock was lagging by the time it took for me to reconnect my board to my iMac.

I hope this helps in some way.

joernupbde

Thanks @GeorgeGoodnight. I will check.

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone here plays regularly with Chessconnect on lichess.org or chess.com tournaments. I'm considering getting into it myself and would really appreciate any insights or advice on how to go about it.

  • How do you typically approach these events when using?

  • What has your experience been like overall?

  • Would you recommend it?

  • Are there any particular challenges or benefits that stand out?

Any feedback or suggestions would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Sunny regards,

Harry

Here is 5.2.0beta which supports Puzzles and Studies on lichess.org. I had planned to put it into version 6, but since @trick0017 was so keen on it, here it is.

I had to restructure large parts of my code for the Android app and now again for this. So, it would be great if some of you tried it on chess.com, too.

Let me know, what works and what does not.

I have played in the lichess 45 45 league for the last 8 seasons and have used my DGT board. I have been using Chessconnect for the couple of seasons and it has been flawless.
As it is a browser plugin you can mostly just chess.com and lichess as if you would without the board. I generally make sure the board is happily connected before I play, but that is pretty much it.
If you're playing multiple games the only practical thing you might consider is giving yourself enough room to spin your board around when you change colours. Some people use a lazy susan, but I don't have enough room for that so I just make sure I have a bit of space around the board to pick it up and move it.
I would recommend it 100%. I wouldn't play long games without it.

my kid played 200+ games with the plugin so far, 80+ on chess.com and rest on lichess, with DGT board & clock.

Lichess is flawless, any rapid with 15+ is recommended, both board and clock works regardless, and if any mis-sync on clock for whatever reason it will sync up again in 1-2 moves.

Chess.com is ok if you dont bother/use DGT clock, i.e, you have the game screen next to you. otherwise I would not recommend if DGT clock matters, especially tournment, as you have to remember to reset the clock right before every game and dont mess around any other web pages ( if you just clicked game review after last round), DGT clock won't display correct time in such case and there is no way to fix until next game.

@endangerP My plan is to fix this clock issue with the next update.

Hi Joernupbde,

Do we need to configure the beta to work with Lichess puzzles and studies? I tried using both Go and Air, but neither is registering activity for puzzles or studies—only games seem to work.

Thanks!

Great, but ...

Quick rough test (no time):
When I start a GAME, the board connects without any problems. When I start a STUDY, the board connects - but does not respond (no LEDs light up). Will check tonight or tomorrow again.
(Chrome, Chessnut Air)

I'll check. But please make sure that you only have the beta installed and not the regular version of Chessconnect, too!

Okay, I understand. I'll check it. Unfortunately, I'm on the road, so I won't be able to do it until tomorrow. Best regards.

joernupbde

No worries. I just checked with Chromebook and Chessnut Air and had no problems.

Hello all, I couldn't find if this topic has been covered elsewhere, so here is my question:

Can I connect my Millennium eONE with Chessconnect on chess.com (Mac) and then play a daily game from an existing position?

I have not yet been able to successfully do this.
This means that I set up the pieces on my board exactly like the position in the game, and then I want to press "analyse" and test different moves OTB.
Same goes for puzzles on chess.com: I'd like to setup the pieces on my board and test OTB.
But it seems there is no recognition...
Anyone has a solution or answer on this? Thanks so much.

joernupbde

@ianb77: The eOne is probably one of the very few boards where this does not work. It does not have full piece recognition and uses internal chess logic. So it kind of relies from always starting from the standard starting position. This was the hardest board to get chess960 working on.

Thank you for your quick answer and all your work on Chessconnect.
Is there no way then to just match the occupied fields? Since it does not have piece recognition, it just needs to know that every field that is supposed to be occupied, is occupied. If you know what I mean...

joernupbde

I know what you mean. But as I said, the eOne is somewhat special here. Other boards without piece recognition like e.g. the DGT Pegasus, or the Certabo Sentio do not have this particular problem.

I have now removed the old plugin and tested the beta again in the Chrome browser on Linux.
In both Lichess and chess.com, I can connect the chessnut air for games without any problems – the button shows ‘connected’ and the LEDs light up.
This also works in chess.com for the tactical exercises – but in Lichess, it doesn't work for the tactical exercises or the studies – the board is connected, but nothing happens with the LEDs. They remain dark.

@trick0017: Can you try to play the first move of the Opening/London study and send me the console log (as describe in this video)?
