Thanks Joern, OTG seems like the way to go with a Certabo.

You might even be fine with a simple USB-C cable. I can check, if you want me to.

That would be helpful if it's not too much trouble. I haven't definitely decided to buy one yet but if it was that easy it may help me make the decision.

I just tried: With Certabo you do in fact need the OTG. But that's a Certabo thing. Chessnut Air for instance works fine with just a USB-C cable. Let me know, if you want me to check anything else.

Thanks Joern! I hope that info helps others here too.

I have rolled out version 1.0.2 on iOS open beta track. This version prevents the phone from entering standby whenever a chess site is active.

I have tested iOS on an iPad, using Chessnut Go, and playing against bots on chess.com and against Maia on Lichess. I can confirm that the screen now stays active, and I have had no problems so far playing on either platform.

Thank you for implementing Chessconnect on iOS, Joern!

How can I access the open beta for iOS ? Very interested in this option.

Why won't iOS support USB? You can use MIDI keyboards with it, which are USB. The strange world of Apple.

@GeorgeGoodnight: I am still hoping that there is a way. But from what I have learned so far, a USB device for iOS needs to be certified via the "Made for iPhone" program. Meaning that the board manufacturers would need to step in. There are some exceptions regarding USB-HID (like the MIDI keyboard you mentioned). But this does not include the few chess boards that use USB-HID. So, that's a dead end, too.

What a pity. I can't see DGT getting involved, which is a pity and shortsighted.

Tried it out today with chessnut go and worked perfect. Thanks

@southernrun: Thanks for testing.

It seems, the iOS app is working decently well. I am currently ironing out a bug in the Extension code which can lead to some hickups with studies and puzzles on lichess. Once that is done, I will roll out the production version for iOS.

Hi

I need to give credit to user @trick0017 who persuaded me to add lichess studies and puzzles to Chessconnect. I did not really believe him that this was something many users would be interested in. Apparently, I was wrong.

So, thanks @trick0017 for pushing me in the right direction!

Oh, thank you! 🤗
I love the idea that lots of nerds are working together, away from the big monopolies and driven solely by shared interests, to come up with viable solutions and enhancements.
It reminds me of the playground that was the Internet in the 1990s.
It was an honour and a pleasure to be able to contribute to this great app.
Thank you, Joern, for your work and your commitment.

New site day: I just released 5.4.0beta adding support for chessiverse.com.

It still needs a lot more testing. But maybe, some of you feel adventurous and like to give it a try?
